Just spent half an hour playing with my car in the garage. Sad I know but it's a new toy
Couple of features I wanted to share. With the 09 navigation you can program and save entire journeys on the HDD. I just programmed a round trip from Antwerp stopping in Luxembourg, Strasbourg, Lausanne, Zurich and Stuttgart. It is now saved and ready for when I go in October. Not sure how many journeys you can program and save at once but it seems to be a few. I had already uploaded the contents of my IPOD on to the HDD. Now I added a few songs to the IPOD and plugged it in to the car again. Discovered it is smart enough to synchronise and just download the new songs without doing the whole lot again. Lucky because it took nearly an hour to download the original 4Gb. I'm sure there are many more features waiting to be found. I will share them as I find them.

Can you comment with pics of the smartphone cradle snap-ins? I'm very curious to see how it works and where they positioned it?
I take it you have an iphone? |

I ordered all the necessary options on my car but I don't actually have the smart phone yet. I was planning to get an iphone but then they were released in Belgium with catastrophically expensive price and plans so I have been boycotting. Meanwhile I haven't found another phone that I like so I am sticking with my old Ericsson that works beautifully via Bluetooth. My dealer has promised me a snap-in adaptor once I choose a phone. FYI. If you want an iphone here it is €615 for a 16Gb and then the plans are still really expensive, like €50 per month and the largest data plan available is 2Gb. Useless.

Personally, I prefer a Garmin/TomTom. You can upgrade it easily as better technology comes out and it doesn't clutter the dash except for the few times you actually need it. My biggest fear is that you have a sweet, 8-year-old BMW that looks great except for this Windows-98-looking, dated piece of software staring at you from the middle of the dash. Think about it, the useful life of a car is much greater than the useful life of your last laptop. Just my $0.02. I've gone out of my way never to own a car with integrated navigation and will continue to do so even if it means moving downmarket or special ordering. -James Seattle, WA |

I never keep my cars longer than 3 years so for me it is fine to take the latest technology. It won't be too dated when I come to sell it.

How are the voice commands for the navi, can you say an address in one sentence? or do you have to list street, number, city, etc. with beeps in between.
What about commands like, find gas station, find bank, etc. ? Thanks! The one in my Mini is terrible and slow to respond. One more thing, does it offer a birds eye view as well as map view? Braden
