I had already decided to get both the clear-bra and tint at the same place.

My PCD is on 12/02 (for now).

Cool, thx, I'll coordinate with Papethova as there seems to be a lot of interest in this for PCD folk and he started a thread. We'll make it worthwhile for Steve. Thx Brandon!

Perhaps Steve can come down and install the ppf and tint while we're goofing off at the track and factory.

So my first thoughts on the carWOW!!! WHAT A GREAT SOUNDING CAR!!! For a in-line 6…turbo'ed car?! WOW! Droning…absolutely. It was great to throw the 1M on the PCD mini track. I felt bad for the guy in front of me driving the 135. You could tell that he really wanted to outrun the 1M, but the 1M was just so awesome around the track.
I was the guy in the 135, and I couldn't get out of your way fast enough (at one point Andy was telling you to slow down to get some distance between your 1M and my 135). It was a great experience, and you and Snertz got awesome cars!

Looking forward to Snertz's videos.

Ah, that's great! Were you the one picking up the 135 or the son who had the M3! Wish we had some better time to get to meet everyone. I was kind of in a daze at that moment. It was great meeting you guys though!

Hmmm...let me talk to him. If the dates are the same, he could probably arrange this with another certified installer that he knows in Greenville, SC. I'll look over your PCD dates, talk to steve and see what he can do. If you come through Charlotte...I know there wouldn't be any issues...if you wanted him to come down, I'll have to check with him.

Here is the update a I know a lot of PCD folks are looking into this option. I called Steve @ AutoShieldCarolinas, and both him and his tinter (Jason) were very nice in giving me some details. Sadly for me, they are not open on Saturdays. I have my PCD on Friday, and by the time I am done (say 3 at best) and take a ride up there (1.5 hrs North), they'll be closing. They do have an alternate location that is open on Saturdays though, but for me the logistics won't work as I need to be in Miami on Sunday and no point driving North for another 1 1/2, essentially extending the trip to So FL by another 3 hrs.

The other thing to consider is that you shouldn't open your windows for a few days. If you have a long trip home like I do, it may be an issue. I am a bit apprehensive that even if I don't pull the windows up/down, every time I enter and exit the car the window comes down by an inch and can cause the film to peel (had this on my 135i the first time I did tints). And with a 700 mile trip, you can bet I'll be opening that door plenty for fueling, toll payments, rest stops. Miami is known for good tint shops, so already gotten a few suggestions from the Regional subforum on credible places down there.

One comment on the Huber Optik vs. 3M Crystaline: the former comes in 40% and no lighter, vs. the latter where you can get up to 70%. Price of the latter is also close to double ($220 vs. $390), but so is its ability to keep heat out (both are rated at 99% UV blockage though). So it really depends on your area (whether front tints are even allowed hence why you may chose a lighter %-age, and what weather you car will be facing). Given I am in the Northeast, in a state with no front tints allowed, I may opt for the 3M in 50% (perhap maybe 70% for the fronts only).

Last comment on the possibility of interference with the CA. The shop said it's the first they've heard, none of their customers reported problems. These are non-metalized films so shouldn't cause any issues.

Here is their website for those interested in doing it. http://www.autoshieldcarolinas.com/

T- Did they mention if they were willing to come out to PCD and do the job there while we are out on the track?

Spoke to them about it, but they are not willing to do it.

Seems they are a good ways away (1.5hrs), so don't see them hauling a van for a couple of cars per day. Plus not sure where they can do it while the PCD cars are on BMW premises.

Good initial idea, but I think for us out of town boys with a long commute back we are better off finding something local once you reach home base.

Ah, that's great! Were you the one picking up the 135 or the son who had the M3!
I was the one picking up the 128i. The PC does not have 128's to drive, so they give you 135's. Two years ago, I went with my son to pick up his M3, and was so impressed with BMW, and the PCD experience, that I had to buy a BMW.

I know what you mean about being in a daze. You wait a long time for PCD of your car, and that day goes by so fast, you wish you had more time to take it all in.
