I know, I know. Now that it has the power, I would love to have some wider wheels with higher offsets. These rear tires won't even last thru the year.

New wheels could come next year

This car has been in need of a good detail and I finally got around to doing it. First I washed it, then went over the whole car with a claybar. I was surprised at the amount of crap the claybar took off. To see a list of products and the process I used, check out the post on my website.

I took a picture before I started the cut/polish/wax process. Once I was finished, I took another picture to show the results. Keep in mind, the “before” picture is when the car was already washed and clean. The imperfections you see are all swirls or scratches, not dirt.

This is an animated GIF, it will switch between images.

In the two photos, you can see a lot of things in my garage reflecting off the paint. The two lines near the middle of the photos are power cords, not scratches. The lighter reflections above those are the power boxes on the light stands. All other bright imperfections are either lights on the ceiling, lights on the stands, or bright objects laying on the ground or on top of shelves. Obviously you can see the reflections of the yellow and red light stands themselves.

This was my first time doing any sort of paint-correction and I am very happy with the results. I briefly researched what products were best and read good things about the Meguiar’s line up and the Harbor Freight foam pads. Said and done, the whole process took about 10 hours. I even wetsanded a spot on the rear bumper to get rid of some weird hazing. I finished up by using trim restorer on the plastic grilles/diffuser, and tire shine on the tires. Well worth it to me.

I was able to remove about 95% of the imperfections from the paint with this process. The 5% of imperfections that remain are very hard to see unless you’re inspecting the car under harsh lighting. It just goes to show how awesome the car looks and feels now. Also, the photos capture the metallic flake. It is easy to see in person but hard to notice in photos. Black Sapphire Metallic > Jet Black!

It's been a while since I've updated this thread. A few things have changed...

I wasn't planning on driving this car through the winter months, but the unexpected always seems to happen. My winter beater threw a rod within 1 week of driving it. At the time, we were getting pretty heavy snow so I had no other choice but to drive the 1-series through winter.

The rear tires were bald and I knew they wouldn't get through snow, so I bought a new set of winter wheels and tires from TireRack.
  • 17×8″ Gunmetal MSW Type 85 wheels
  • 225/45/17 General Altimax Arctic tires
  • OEM TPMS sensors
You can see my blog post about them here. It includes more some more details, review, and a few more pictures.

The car was due for some maintenance so I spent a weekend tidying things up.
  • Returned to factory pump gas flash for winter season
  • Replaced broken hood latch and stretched hood cable
  • Oil change with Motul 8100 5W-30 and MANN oil filter kit
  • Replaced faulty front brake pad sensor
  • Installed missing jack pad (front, passenger side)
  • Replaced broken dome light bulb holder
After getting the car back on the road, it's performed flawlessly. The wheels are great and it purrs like a kitten.

Again, it's been a little while since I've updated this thread.

After 4 weeks, my LCI Blackline taillights were delivered straight from Germany!

See more details and comparison shots on my blog post about them.

New Blackline (left) vs. OEM taillight (right) - OFF

New Blackline (left) vs. OEM taillight (right) - ON

I bought a front splitter from fmxomar (see this thread). I've always felt like the front end needed something more aggressive, and this splitter was perfect. Paired with APR support rods, I think it looks great and it's also functional.

I got a pair of side splitters as well, but those will go on in a few weeks.

You can read about the full install (with more details/pictures) in my blog post.

Also, I converted all of the interior lights to LEDs. Front dome light, map lights, rear dome light, trunk, and glovebox.

You can read the details on my blog post about them.

After all of this, I performed the $2 DIY blow off valve mod for cool noises. With my exhaust, I can't hear much of a difference.

Also, I sold my BBS LM replica wheels! Stay tuned for something more 'track-worthy' in the upcoming months.

I have a Rieger rear diffuser and those side splitters waiting to be installed once the weather gets a little nicer.

My 335is/550i clutch and MFactory SMFW will be installed next week, along with a fresh transmission fluid flush. The car should be able to hold the power it's putting down this summer!

She was pretty dirty after the 6 hour trip back.

Also, I keep an up-to-date blog with tons of info:
www.My1Series.com

Knowing that I would be keeping this one for a while, I needed to make sure it had everything I wanted.

Black Sapphire Metallic, 6-speed
Black interior with aluminium glacier-silver trim
  • Sport Package
  • Cold Weather Package
  • Comfort Access
  • iDrive/Navigation
  • HiFi Professional Sound System (Logic7)
  • Rear parking sensors
  • No 135i badge from factory
  • Additional cup holder
  • Warning triangle & first aid kit

Modifications it came with:
  • BMW Performance short shift kit and knob
  • Custom stainless-steel axle-back exhaust
  • Riss Racing oil catch can
  • K&N drop in air filter
  • JB+ 20HP chip
  • Powdercoated black Style 264 wheels with 225/40/18 Blizzaks
  • Eibach Pro-Kit springs (1″ drop front and rear)
  • BMW Performance black front grilles
  • Black/white BMW emblem overlays
  • Carbon fiber wrapped interior trim
  • Tinted rear and side windows
  • Tinted side markers

Had my girlfriend drive so I could take a rolling shot:

Next to my 250whp Miata:

I plan to slowly build it to my liking and keep up on maintenance. It hasn't had a walnut blasting yet, so that's on the top of my list of things to do. And I need to get a set of summer wheels so I can get these winter tires off.

Stay tuned!
Very clean and done just right! Great photos!

Looks really nice! I wondered why more 1ers didn't run the support bars. I guess most people don't like idea of drilling bumper. I think it looks nice and aggressive. ever think about cutting the plastic piece on the lower brake vent? Hope you don't mind.

I searched and searched for pictures of a 135i with support rods and a splitter but came up empty handed. I don't think anyone has done it! I found one or two 1Ms with rods and a 1er with a BMW Performance bumper, but none with the M-Sport bumper. I think it looks great!

I've seen the thread where people cut out the middle bar like you suggest, but don't want to permanently remove that... yet. Maybe it'll grow on me, but I like the look now. Thanks for the suggestion!

Not sure. Have a few in mind, but they're unavailable right now. ARC8s were going to be my last option, but those are out of stock as well in 135i sizing. Wait a few months and I'm sure I'll find something.

Update: As I posted above, I sold my BBS LM replica (ESM) wheels. I ended up getting a deal on a set of APEX AERO-7 wheels locally, so I bought them this weekend. I test-fitted them right away and decided I really didn't like them, whatsoever.

I took them off right away and listed them for sale. The wheels sold right away, but I still have like-new Nitto INVO tires and TPMS sensors for sale.

I found a set of wheels across the country on Craigslist and convinced the seller to ship them. So, I sent him money last night and hope to have them by this weekend or early next week!

Anyone think I made a mistake by selling the LM reps or APEX AERO-7s?

Personally, the black on black for summer doesn't appeal to me, I think it makes the car pop with some contrast. The reps I think looked great! However, now you have the chance again to shop for something unique. I wanted to get the VMR V713s originally but they didn't come in 18s. Then spent some time on the internet and found out the Enkei wheels I just bought fit the 135 so I am excited to have something a bit different. Good luck, let us know what you get!

I thought the LM replicas looked great but I don't like replica wheels and the APEX wheels are just too boring and blend in too much IMO. What are you getting next? or is it a secret?

I agree, the black-on-black does not look good here. The LM reps did look good, but I couldn't fit very much tire on them. I already bought another set of wheels though.

Which Enkei's did you get?

It's a secret... until they arrive. I'll test fit them and post some pictures!
