Hi!

As a new member and also kind of "new" to these 1M´s and x35i Engines in general, I´d like to know what kind of clutches one should buy when going for more Power, especially other turbos and lots of time on the track? Im talking track as in turning, not drag! So which one should I go for? I see different names but still..

Im just waiting for the right 1M to show up and I´m all over it, but want more power.

Im just installing the standard clutch again but will remove the CDV this time. \

I ran the standard setup with 420bhp 490ft/lbs of power for 14000 miles, and i drove it like i stole it everywhere..its been over 5-6 passes in the alps and it was great. It only slipped a couple of times a few weeks ago when driving the GF to work. I removed the tune and now its fine however, ive got it booked it to be changed at BMW next month.

Regarding the DMFW, il let you all know the condition of it when the clutch is out, if its in good nick then i wont change it, no point. if its got play and the face is damged then il change it. There is no need to change a flywheel unless its screwed. I rebuilt a few Mk2 GTI's, some with 150000 miles + on the clock and never replaced the flywheels, and i can tell you now, i never had any issues with any of them, including the one i have right now.

Dropped the car off at BMW yesterday and was told that because the car only had 15000miles that If the clutch is faulty because of the seal or something else then they would happily replace it as a good will gesture which I thought was really good of them.

I got the phone call today that the flywheel is fine so only the clutch will need replaced and although the crankshaft seal was leaking it had not affected the flywheel or clutch so I will need to pay for the clutch. They said also that becuase my car had exhaust, intercooler, air filter that declares it as modified so they can't help me out on this occasion. They will replace the seal (£70).

All in all £1200 for the work and clutch. I choose to modify the car so I can't argue that the extra power could / did wreck clutch..

BMW are going to show me the video they took when replacing the clutch which shows the condition of the flywheel too....will post when I get it

I just received my MFactory Steel SMFW and am waiting on the Spec Stage 3+ Clutch. Once installed and broken in, I'll lend some feedback here.

I'm running the 550i clutch and pressure plate (kit from ecs) on my 135, great clutch, super grabby, I'm only running a tune and downpipes though.

running 530lbft on my 1M and when the clutch is warm it has just started to slip under full load.
What would be the best clutch set up for daily use?
Thinking of ditching the dual mass flywheel for a quicker revving engine but would prefer as little rattle as possible along with retaining a light feeling clutch peddle?

cheers Jamie
