Footwell module needs replacement or something else?
Hi,
I've recently bought e81 120d from 2009 with adaptive headlights. From the very beginning it had "adaptive headlights failure" everytime i start the car. Everything else works fine. After connecting with ISTA i got following error codes: 009315 FRM: ALC system faulty 009CBA FRM: Communication with LIN operator unit disturbed 009CC1 FRM: Stepping-motor controller (SMC), left, signalling fault 009CC3 FRM: Communication with mirror, driver's side, disturbed 009CC4 FRM: Communication with mirror, passenger's side, disturbed Should I check for something else before replacing the FRM? Some sort of common harness for the both mirrors and SMC? |

Reset the module via ISTA and perform the AHL test. If that doesn't resolve it, I would replace the headlight controllers before replacing the FRM.

Check the plug connection to the headlight, check the connection between the headlight and the module (eg. water ingress). You can also swap the modules side to side to see if the fault migrates but it is usually at this point that you discover something like water ingress.
Not sure what the warranty coverage is on the FRM where you are. I know in some regions they extended the warranty on them |

Thanks for the tips. As far as I understand the documentation correctly the SMC modules are integrated in the FRM in the version I own. Of course I didn't read it until I disassembled the front fender and looked for them underneath the headlights
I will look for water damage in the FRM though. |

There won't be any water damage to the FRM. The FRM is located inside of the car. What juld0zer mentioned for water damage are the AHL modules at the headlight assembly.

Thank you very much for your help guys, replacing the SMC module solved all the fault codes associated with the FRM and the adaptive headlights started working again.
But now I'm stuck at the coding part - while choosing the "process ECU" in NCS Expert there is neither LSMC nor RSMC on the list. Has anyone encountered that problem before? Or is coding that module in 1 series different than in 3 series? |
