As the title states, I'm looking to grab a set of Hankook R-S4s. I'm a little bit concerned about the width of the tires. I plan to run 235/40/18 on a 18x9 inch rim up front.

Noticed that the width of the R-S4s in that size are pretty aggressive at 8.7 inches. Michelin's Pilot Super Sports already are considered pretty wide at 8.5 inches (same size tire).

Since fitment is going to be pretty tough for me, do you guys think its OK to stretch a 225/40/18 on the 9 incher since it's so wide?

My assumption is that the R-S3 and the R-S4 is the same width but i have not checked to see. If it is, the 235 should be fine on a 9 i ran a 255 R-S3 and a 225 khumo on the same 9 inch wheel, on my golf. The 255 looked chunky but sat flat, if that's what your concern is. If you are worried about rubbing on the fender or strut i don't have any answers for you. The 225 looked nice with a very mild stretch. Nothing to worry about. granted it was a 17inch wheel but still i wouldn't be concerned.

I'm running the original 215 on an 8.5" ('til it wears out, but I hate it), so I should think you'd be fine. Tire manufacturers publish guidelines as to the min and max rim widths for a specific width tire, so check it out...

Thanks! I looked around, and did some more research looks like it should be ok. Clearances though....are another story .

Thanks for your input! I looked at tread width as I think that's a good indicator of how wide the tires literally are. Looks like I'll be okay with it being ~ .7 inches smaller than the width of the rim.
