Since you moved from Germany this from the horse's mouth should be understandable? If not, pics depict fastener locations.

Anyone have a part number for these in order to buy separately from BMW?
I lost mine after it being washed at a local car wash. I reckon they prodded at it to get it clean, alot of dirt tends to build up around it, and thus it popped and it fell out. Didn't realise right there and then unfortunately. I've had a look on RealOEM but doesn't look like the part is available separately?

Well done Pape!! "Faux" vents always bother me on any performance car. If they were never intended to be open, then BMW should've moulded the bumpers without holes and the need for plugs. The plastic plugs make the design look like fake aero, which cheapens the car (reminds me of when I first looked at a 3000GT up close...fake vents and aero channels everywhere).
I suspect there was a real use of those rear bumper openings that never made it to production. It's almost as if the 1M budget constraints became a reality, the bean counters in accounting demanded the designers "cut costs now" so they plugged the hole instead of fully utilizing whatever aero design that was intended. So if Pape's opening of the vents creates unintended airflow that disrupts the current aero design & performance...how would we know? More oversteer? Decreased downforce at speed? Failure of underbody components due to altered airflow adversely affecting cooling? Doubtful. It's not a Formula1 car, so aero tolerances are very wide. The Slek & Revosport front spoilers & rear diffusers haven't resulted in any issues of yet (nor the gazillion body kits on any other production car out there). It would be nice to talk to somebody from the M division who was there during the 1M project & find out the scoop on our fake scoops. (I know...they're really vents, but it sounded clever). In the meantime, I've pm'd you Pape to get some screen. |
