Here are the pics. . .it was indeed a purely bolt-on piece, secured by (3) 8mm bolts.
Here's the shroud, removed by yours truly: I was able to pull it out with the intercooler in place. . .I would highly recommend if you want it removed, just do it while the stock intercooler is out of the way, and before the Forge has been installed. Plenty of room in there now, a much better fit overall! Here's a couple shots of the front view now, with more of the intercooler exposed. We also did an AFE intake on Mdawood's car, looks great! Anyone need one? Give us a shout! |

Nice! When you guys get more in stock, I think I'll be making a trip down.
Curious though, what is the plastic shroud for?

+1. What could be the function of this? Kind of lame protection for the intercooler, guess and hope not! Or was it intentionally put there to limit (or maybe direct) the air flow for some reason? Why would BMW bother to produce and install this piece?

If it were my own 1M, I would absolutely remove this piece before the Forge intercooler goes in. It's easy and makes it a breeze to install the new intercooler and is 100% reversible. . .not to mention I'm sure it will allow for better flow. |

Do you have to remove the front bumper to get that shroud piece out?

Air duct
I removed the air duct as well, but I am thinking about reinstalling it after some trimming. You can buy a replacement for $36-$56. I would rather not have such large "unfiltered" openings into the engine compartment on both sides of the FMIC.
I also replaced three of the sheet metal nuts holding the lower pan on with plastic rivets. I was very uncomfortable with the FMIC sitting on the hardened sheet metal nuts. |

What are the intake improvements with the box?
Not trying to be OCD but is that AFE intake decal really upside down?

Have no numbers for you unfortunately. I picked up Forge IC to admire it when I unpacked. It did not seem that heavy... but when I picked up stock after install I was amazed how light it seemed. Just an observation, maybe someone can weight it for us?
