Why doesn’t anyone make a low profile BMW roof rack?

Really interested in tossing a roof rack on my 135i but can’t get over how unsporty the OEM ones look. Is there a better option out there?

Also, is there anything proprietary about the mounting mechanism? Considering going DIY to get what I’m looking for.

Thanks!

For reference, I figure the racks could sit a few inches lower in the pic below

I've got the BMW rack. I agree it sits a bit high, but knocking a few inches off will severely limit what you can mount to it. Many attachments have plastic pieces that need to clear that space.

I use mine to transport mountain bikes and snowboards. The clearance allows me to carry two boards in one slot without the bindings scratching up the roof.

I think it looks plenty sporty.

Appreciate the feedback and hadn’t considered needing extra clearance when mounting things. Ideally I’d like to build out a single (or cozy double) person camper shell though in measuring it, I think the space would be limited and would probably bump up against the weight limit pretty quick. I’ll keep dreaming for now.
