128i BMW Performance Exhaust (difference between European Ref)
I would like to know the American Market reference for the 128i BMW Peformance Exhaust ?
In Europe, we have only 1 reference : 18 10 0444 747 For USA Market, there is an other reference : 18 10 0443 577 (right or wrong ?) I notice someone says that there is not exhaust flap in BMW Performance Exhaust... Someone who had installed it on his 128i... In Europe, PE comes with Exhaust Flap Somebody could confirm ? |

Exhast flap makes it quieter at low revs, you can disable it.
128i PE has dummy connection, maybe 125i is dummy connection too?

No one will know, could be for marketing. 125i vs 135i in HP making the 125i appeal to more conservative customer ( especially with automatic)

The OEM exhaust has got the flap, so PE must have the flap for homologation. But Could you confirm that the American BMW Performance Exhaust hasn't got this flap for sure ? |

I have the 128i performance exhaust (north american) and it does not have a flap. It has a small metal post on it where you plug the vacuum line to block it off.

Yeah, when we buy it the exhaust comes without any additional piping. It's just the muffler.

I'm not trying to be critical of people who like their "performance exhaust" from BMW but it doesn't seem to me that it's a good deal versus the Magnaflow which is a cat back. Larger pipe with smoother bends + a more open muffler seems like it would provide more benefit than just a more open muffler. I'd like a little more sound but I'd like a little less backpressure too and it seems like the BMW offering is really just more sound.

I wouldn't worry about power gains from the muffler, you aren't going to get enough to worry. Just focus on what you like the best from a sound perspective.

aka magnaflow s a BIT better, because of the more open muffler etc. but mostly a waste of money. ED: on the upside, it's cheaper than the BMWPE, and you're correct, it WOULD actually offer SOME performance when the BMWPE offers none |

Well, i run a complete muffler/resonator delete and my car runs fine. The cats provide more than enough back pressure. My 128 performance exhaust did not have an exhaust flap.

I always find it funny how aftermarket exhaust companies have brainwashed people into thinking that when you "gut" your muffler remove cats/any to all resonators, that you will get massive HP gains.. Dyno your car after a "shitty" exhaust mod, and you will most probably find that you loss torque... OPs question: NO, the USDM BMWPE for 128i does NOT have a flap. |

This is why I always advocate a properly developed set of pipes though. BMW factory exhausts are very good, joe blow muffler shop isn't on the same level. |
