BMW Performance Steering Wheel V1

BIMMERPOST / Classifieds
Asking Price:
Sold
Shipping Costs Included

Item Interest
Hi All,

Pulled this V1 wheel from a car at the yard and was very excited to get it on the car but after installing it and setting off my airbag light, I found a broken ribbon cable in the clock spring is broke.

Though about fixing it myself but I dont trust my soldering skills enough.
Perhaps someone with significant electronics experience can fix it?

Posted at $750 but honestly I'm not sure what its worth given they dont make the spring anymore. It does show some age but overall its in decent condition. Its for at MT will include the e82 harness, the wheel controls, clockspring, and alcantara trim.

Let me know if you're interested.

Will take $450

I wasn't able to get it to turn on due to the ribbon. As soon as I installed it and turned on the car, the airbag light was set off and that's when I found the broken ribbon.

I think an experienced electrician/solderer could fix it. I saw a forum post where a guy did it on an X5.

Your price seems set at about the price I see these in working condition. Might want to give rob at speedlogic a call, I'm sure he could fix or find someone to fix the clock spring for you, and he's also in orange county.

Ya. Wasn't sure what to post it at. What to you think would be a fair number?
Thanks for the heads up on the shop. I'll give them a call tomorrow.

It's basically worthless if it's broken. Sorry if that comes off harsh.

I'd have it fixed and close the sale until done.

Not very much unfortunately. A new V2 wheel (full alcantara, OLED lighting, flat bottom) can be had from dealers for $1100.

This one is used and broken.

You'd be able to sell it for ~$200 in the current condition.

Ive tried to solder ribbons like this in the past.. its close to impossible.. if the ribbon is large in size.. u can melt it back to expose the copper and easy to attach.. if its somewhat small.. as soon as u put the heat to it.. the plastic seperations between cables melt.. or if u try to solder.. the solder gun will melt the plastic this causing a short.. if its large.. its hard if its small .. damn near impossible
