Carbon build up water injection

Makes you wonder why somone hasn't thought of a nice way of using your windshied washer system to run a water injection system yet to simply wash away all this silly carbon and reduce engine temperatures?

I mean what, $300 easy for nut blasting your intake Vs. $300 for a decent water injection system?

Kind of makes you wonder?

For those who have used water injection....any carbon build up issues?

^^because... water does not "compress" like walnut shells when Mr piston meets Mr cyclinderhead.

Seriously... water injection would work. But its very dangerous. I know of quite a few Subbie techs who use a cup of water and a vacuum port to "clean" the carbon by sucking small slurps at a time. But it only takes one GULP before your engine it is mortally wounded.

Most people running methanol on here are running a 50/50 meth to water ratio and all it does is slow carbon build up down and not prevent it and methanol is a great cleaner. There's no getting around carbon build up on these engines.

To OP...this is done often and fairly common however, water alone through the intake, I'd be surprised if it had much affect on existing buildup...that stuff is VERY sticky!

As to preventing it? I don't know if you'd be able to completely resolve the issue....but greatly reducing it...certainly.

Having done (in order)...

-FMIC and seeing everything coated in a thin layer of oil...

-Installing an OCC and seeing the amount of oil collected (>table spoon) in a relatively short period of time(1450 miles)...

-Having done a valve cleaning and thus removing the charge pipe and intake to find virtually no film present but dirty valves...(not sure of the timeline on the buildup)

-Having replaced the PCV and finding a lot of oil present...

-Seeing pics of where somebody else had the valve cleaning done a year ago, runs an OCC and recently verified they were still pretty clean...

Leads me to believe that the situation is unavoidable to some extent but can be greatly reduced through preventative measures. Running meth post clean would also likely help, but have no experience to share on that...maybe next year...

Run a bit of windshield washer fluid through the sysem after the car is nice and warm...just a squirt when the car is on the highway....may work a little?

Nothing much just a few CC's here and a few CC's there.....

That's not gonna do jack squat trust me it's well documented on E90 post of people running meth which is basically windshield washer fluid and they're spraying way more that a few CC's when they go WOT and it doesn't stop the build up.

i have seen videos where the valve cleaner is sucked up the vac hose into the intake to clean carbon. not sure if it works as i have never tried it on my car.

That and probably a combination of things, supposedly a pro Cobb tuner can tune the cam right to help with carbon build up, that in conjunction with the BMS OCC, the RB modded PCV valve, and meth injection might be enough to stop or significantly slow it down.

Do not run Techron Cleaner through a methanol pump, it will jack the pump up.

Members on E90 post have also done that and it doesn't help.

So to help reduce the issue all we need is to have our timing adjusted?

I still think this is an enviromental issue.

Say you have carbon build up. A chunk of carbon falls off....and lands on the cat and burns a hole through it....who covers that? You and I or BMW?

Anyone know if running an E85 mixture makes the situation worse?
