Had mine done this morning, my dealer sent a tech to my house. Nice! And a good guy, too. The fix is a replacement of the last 10" or so of the connector cable along with the connector itself... which is the actual reason for the recall, there is a condensation problem (I knew that) and this new connector is more water-tight. (and, my thoughts alone, apparently dealing with the condensation itself is a much more daunting task) I gave the tech my original (fried) blower for BMW to have; not sure if they need or want it, but at least it's no longer on my garage floor.

Mine done this morning. Needed the blower regulator and the long harness, so I guess there was some visible degradation. Took two hours, and aside from the fact that they moved my (carefully adjusted manual sport) seats everything seemed as I left it.

Two hours? This is a 20min repair; I watched the tech who did mine while chatting with him about cars (dude was a bit distracted by all that conversation and, still, 20min).

There are three levels of repair. The "long harness" takes significantly longer. We rarely need to do the long harness thankfully.

Interesting. I'm told the only thing being "fixed" with this is the connector (at the fan, something more waterproof). Why the long harness?

The fan in my car was replaced by me a year or two ago. AFAIK that didn't change anything for me relative to this recall? I did give the old burnt-up and dead fan to the tech.

The long harness is done if the insulation on the old wiring has basically burned off the insulation and you see bare wiring. In that case, new wiring is run all the way to the JBE and a new ground to the ground point under the carpet, instead of splicing in a new connector. Requires removal of the glove box and the JBE.

I have done hundreds of these recalls and have only had to do the long harness 4 or 5 times.

reviving this old thread: my 128 had the blower wiring recall work done almost 12 months ago. Now the blower motor won't receive power. I'm thinking the motor is due for replacement. So, I put in the a new blower unit -- still no power to fan, no blow. Tracing the wiring up past the short new splice and there is power before the splice but not after. The area around the splice looks heated. I'm weighing whether to take it back to the dealership to redo and replace more of the harness, or try cleaning up the splice myself.

I would contact your Service Advisor at the dealer. It should be under a repair warranty.

BMW warranty is at least a year I think....take it back.

Yeah I'm taking it back -- what's the worst that could happen if I try my fix? Splice into compromised wiring and it works for a while; months later 128 parked in my garage, blower wiring catches fire, wife's hairspray can lodged under the passenger seat accelerates the flames; cars and house burn to the ground..insurance co pinpoints the start of the blaze to my handiwork..

Plus, you would probably void your warranty by fixing it yourself. lol
