Sky Sports/BBC Split F1 Coverage in 2012
News broke this morning that from 2012 to 2018 Sky Sports will host full F1 coverage of every race, qualifying, and practice sessions. BBC will get to cover qualy and race of half of the racing including the heavy hitters Silverstone, Monaco and the last GP of the season.
http://pitpass.com/44339-BBC-and-Sky...hare-F1-rights Interesting news, too bad we can't get Sky Sports in the states but in the end it doesn't change much for us probably.

Great news for me I subscribe Sky Sports. I can’t get BBC because my satellite dish isn’t big enough.

The only thing it changes for me is my search terms.

It affects me someway, it doesn't directly influence us as North American Viewers. But I've been enjoying download torrents, and BBC iPlayer showing Formula 1 coverage.
BBC had shown us since 2009 how F1 broadcast should be, they've been doing a supreme job! An hour long pre-race coverage, good insights, no-commercial live coverage (and in HD this year), and interactive Red Button post-race forum. We've all been spoiled by them. I'm not sure, does SKY sports has commercial? If so, will they keep no-commercial until the race is over?

There may be some truth to the BBC not wanting to foot the full bill anymore. But they also may still have to serve the rest of their contract, which resulted in them running a reduced schedule. This is just my guess though.

It does have commercials but apparently they wont broadcast any during the race, which i find hard to believe.

Hell, they could show one commercial on Parade lap and non-stop till P1 cross the checkered flag, then BAM, commercial again. Like FOX we have in America.

I read through the articles on the various sites and it seems all of Sky's coverage will be available via mobile device and tablet.
"The broadcasting partnership will include: * All races, qualifying and practice sessions live on Sky Sports across TV, Online and Mobile and Tablet devices * Extensive multi-platform coverage including red button, bbc.co.uk/sport and skysports.com. " Im curious if its something we could sign up for here in the US and have it streamed live. I'd pay for that for sure.

Sky has confirmed that it will not run adverts during its broadcast coverage of Formula 1 races next year, and will instead limit them to the pre and post-race show.

Sad to see BBC dropping due to cost, another victim (beside the small teams and race hosts) of Bernie's fees!!!!

I was disappointed when iTV lost the broadcasting rights to BBC. I can get iTV and SkySport on my satellite but not BBC. During summer months I’m at my summer home and cell phone internet is too slow for live streaming. Right now I have to watch the local broadcast which sucks.

A rumor just broke that Martin Brundle (Lead BBC F1 Commentator) is being offered a £1m contract offer to be Sky's lead commentator next year.
