I happened to take a look at my paperwork last night and saw something interesting. Apparently, my car (CPO) had the seal repair already completed before I took delivery. So, the repair that's being done to cars with working tail lights may not actually be effective in remedying the problem it seems.

I didn't have failure, but I'm sure it was going to happen soon. There was a LOT of condensation in my right side tail cluster, and it looked dirty inside. Dealer said they replaced the "light" so I don't know if that means they replaced the whole part on just that side or the complete set. I'll give them a call tomorrow about that.
Thanks 1addicts! |

3rd brake light fell out, as well as both tail lights out
My car went in for the 3rd time to have the 3rd brake light "fixed" this was a service bulletin last year - this time it looks as though they actually replaced the entire set up and not just glued a new light on. When I brought it in 1 tail light was out and they replaced both and performed that recall as well. BMW did not announce this service bulletin, so if you mention it to them they might act dumb....it also covers cracks in the 3rd brake light.

Right rear taillight went out about a week ago. Then the SES light came on and remained illuminated a couple of days after that.
Dropped the car off this morning and of course the SES light decided to turn off enroute to the dealership. Must have been the snow it had to trudge through and the car thinking it was a 1xDrive35i on summer tires. Had to take it really, really easy on the way as the conditions were fairly nasty and having one taillight out driving in somewhat dark made me feel like a police and/or idiot magnet. Yet despite this folks were flying by me like I was a 3300 pound, 300hp chicane. Have to give a shout-out to the GY Asymmetrics. They felt composed even though they were way out of their element. Traction light only lit up once, and that was in the residential subdivision which hadn't been plowed of its 4+ inches of powder yet. Anyway, seat belt tensioner recall will also be performed. Hope they don't dork up the throttle response if/when they flash it. Did get an '11 328i with Xdrive as a loaner. Johnny Cash edition (black on black). Not a terrible ride, except for the non-SP bench seats and Steppy-tronic. Maybe because I'm more familiar with it, but it appears to me the 4Motion haldex oriented VAG setup is better (less intrusive) than the Xdrive BMW kit. I hardly ever pop the traction lights on the R32 unless I try to. Xdrive seems a little more "sensitive". Nothing wrong with that per se as the Xdrive is still confidence inspiring. It's just not as sporty about it as the R32 is, but then that's not fair as it's not really meant to be. The Xi feels heavy......really heavy. You have to mash the throttle to get it to go, otherwise it has a hard time getting out of its own way. The manual gearbox would definitely help a bit, but it really needs about 30 more hp and some more torque down low in the powerband. And yet for all of these gigs it doesn't reek all that bad. Just glad I don't have to deal with keeping the JB paint clean. Forgot how nasty black looks with snow, snot and all kinds of dirty gunk stuck to it.
