Those are certainly numbers that a lot of people have thrown out. I would be happy with those numbers as they keep the car affordable for those who have never bought a BMW before.

OMG I love your ideas!! I have been thinking that the 135i cant crawl too much into the 30K Range without stealing sales away from even the 328i Sedan!! I think 32K for the 135i is a great price and that would make the 128i about 25-26K, which would be a great deal. BMWUSA..ARE YOU HEARING THIS??!!

128i - 28k base
135i - 34.9k base that's my wag edit: after thinking about it i can't rationalize a 7k difference in prices. i think 1ster is probably on target below. |

That is wayy to high for the 128i!! That's almost 30K! Many car magazines and BMWNA has stated that the 128i will start below 30K and when they say that, they don't mean $5 below 30k.

In the past when the entry level 3-Series was advertised, BMW would state that the MSRP was under $32K which equaled it being $31,999

I don't think BMWUSA would advertise the 1 Series as being under 30K if it truly wasn't.

I agree with Joelk and 1ster.......I'm thinking just under 35k base for the 135........38k for my car with coral Boston leather and auto......do i hope it's lower, definitely....but popular wisdom on these boards is 35k base....

Optimistic, but I think you're off by at least $2,000.
The 128 will be $29,995 and the 135 will be $34,595 (or more). This is overpriced for the market and BMW will shoot itself in the foot on this car, hamstringing its potential success. |

Kurichan:
from the hype, popularity, websites, and pre-orders for the 128/135, do you really believe your post with respect to price being this car's downfall?..... is you opinion about BMW overpricing this car based on any specific US market knowledge that you have i.e automotive marketing experience, or perhaps you own a dealership?...Please do enlighten us, as based on your info, I might just wait for another year and grab this car at a bargain basement price after it hamstrings..... |

I am, among other things, CEO of an engine technology company, so I am in close touch with the market, but I don't think that qualifies me any more than anyone here to make an intuitive guess at how this car will do at whatever price BMW chooses. |

i think the 135i will do well regardless of the pricing (long as it's reasonable compared to 238s) cause it's in a category of it's own as far as size and power. And as for a 128i, i can't really tell how this will go as this is a brand new section for NA BMW, and there's already a lot of competition in this category. And most people that are conservative enough to get the 128 instead of the 135i probably will be looking for more room than the 128.
