Connected Drive & BMW Apps
Hi all,
Just posting a topic up to see if anyone has or is contemplating getting their 1series retrofitted/upgraded with the software that enables the Connected Drive & BMW Apps. There is info from this thread (http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=513801) but as with most things on this forum, there is no pricing, and very limited information on what you are actually buying. Personally I can't see myself using the social media much, but having functionality of Google in your car and having it link to the Navigation is pretty good. Discuss...

I've emailed Patrys to get a quote for a CIC iDrive along with these new options awhile back. All I can say it's ridiculously expensive, and it's not worth getting.... Especially when I don't even use Facebook, Twitter etc.
If you want to know the prices he offered just PM me and I'm more than happy to share with you. |

The fact you need to PM me the prices, probably means I'll pass - like I said, the only thing would be the internet access (Google) - couldn't care about the social media stuff.
Had a good play around the iDrive tonight, didn't get any clues though. I did find this - http://bmw.connecteddrive.info/ Pretty disappointed that once you click on the region "Global" which covers Australia, most / all the options go away. On another note, does anyone know how to find the DME software version no?

You need Google in your car why?

I think what I would like, is if you could get your text messages to pop up on the nav screen.

Just get the iPhone 4s and Siri will read the texts to you! I predict cars will one day have iPhone/iPad docks in the dash and iOS will control all your in-car entertainment, navigation and communication. Bring it on!

It'll be handy for those times when you know the name of the place but am not sure where it actually is.
From what I've read, information from the Google app can be linked directly to the navigation, which removes the need to go through the destination input process.

Points of interest only work if they've registered themselves on whatever map BMW has installed on your car. With new businesses (especially restaurants) popping up all the time, it's a nice feature.
Like I said, not a must-have, but considering its being advertised in Aussie brochures now, thought I'd ask. Spoke to my guy at North Shore BMW and they say it's undergoing ADR testing...

It's things like this either not being available or not being easily retrofitted that is making me investigate other options for my next car.
