$$ for Mounting & Balancing Winters
I was quoted $36/tire for mounting and balancing of my new 18" winter tires (non run-flats). I thought this sounded a bit high. Unfortunately I do not have room in my 1er to lug around the unmounted tires and rims, so I am kinda stuck. Should I get a friend to help me get them to another place? Or does this sound reasonable? Thanks in advance!

That's not cheap but it's not outrageous either. Around here it's about $25 a wheel depending on where you get it done.

Check Tirerack.com's recommended installers in your area and see what they can do. We do Hunter Road Force mounting/balancing here for $15 per wheel.

I have generally seen $25+. One place said they charge $2 per inch, which would be $36 for your tires. It may depend on whether they do roadforce balance as well, which can be more expensive at places that offer it (except apparently at VMR ).

I have been running winter tires on my Trucks/SUV’s for years. I simply buy a wheel and winter tire setup and I can change them out when I want. Do the math. You are going to spend $72 per wheel a year putting the tires on in winter and taking them off in the spring. For about $200 ea you can get wheels and TPMS from Tire Rack. Three years and the wheels paid for themselves. Additionally, the wheels will take a beating in the winter and have a chance of getting damaged installing/removing the tires so you end up with crappy looking wheels. Just my 2 cents

I bet I'll be paying about that when I go in for my 15k service and have the dealer put the snows on. I don't mind because it should be the last time. New wheels are expected soon for summer and the stock wheels will be winter only. Once all wheels are set up, I'll change them myself with the seasons.
