the latest info on the CARB holdup: held till 10-24

Found this on bimmerfile:

The EPA has not certified the following models as of today: X6 xDrive35i, 135i, 335i and 535i and are not expected to pass the CARB requirements until around the 24th. These models may be delayed being sent to dealers due to these certification hold ups.

No way would it affect ED. It sounds to me like somebody really dropped the ball at BMW. My car is being shipped through Canada right now so it isn't a problem for us.

As I understand it this is a 2009 thing, your 2008 should be all set.

I talked to my dealer today and they are not betting that the cars will be out soon. I'm going NUTS! A friend of mine is buying my Evo RS but he can't get it from me until the BMW's are here. Aarrgghhh....

UPDATE:

Just spoke to my dealer, the 135's 335, 535's (any 35 engine) is held up at PDCs not sure when they will be released.

Called up BMW NA and asked what the heck was going on and they said that the EPA "spot checked" the "35" engine and that they have no control, it is a random check and all the 2009's are held up and they don't know when they will be sent on to dealers.

No major news but that's what I have

This whole delay is making that '08 0.9% financing very, very attractive. If they had a car with silver trim and CA on the lot, I'd be hard pressed to justify waiting for the '09 for nav alone.

Thankfully we have a 2nd car in the house but for crying out loud... I wonder if BMW could have sent a early 2009 "35" car/engine for pre testing so the market place wouldn't be completely held up?

If customs or whoever "spot checked" the cars, there's nothing BMW can or could have done. As I stated in another thread, the government feels like this on importing goods, "it's not a right but a Priviledge to be able to import goods into the country." I used to bring in wood decking from overseas and would occasionally have a shipment delayed as a "spot check". I won't even tell you how much they don't care about annoying the owner, and I had already paid for the wood. I won't tell you how long either.

BMW is hoping they'll be released by October 28...

This afternoon I received an email from someone at BMW Western Region Distribution saying that all twin-turbo engined cars are being held for CARB certification and, "Hoping they will be released by Oct 28th."

When I asked my CA why cars that aren't destined for California are being held for California Air Resource Board certification he said that it is probably due to the fact that all BMW's sold in the U.S. are 50-state certified.

I'm down to one car, having sold my 2007 VW Rabbit, and have already purchased airfare and two
non-refundable hotel nights. Fortunately the dealer has offered to reimburse the airline change fee and the hotel nights. :w00t:
