BMW Performance Wing Owners - Satisfied?
Hey Guys,
I just wanted to post my experience with my BMW Performance rear carbon lip wing. Like most other people, I paid my premium to receive this tiny piece of carbon fiber (which undoubtedly makes the car look cooler and +10hp )... However, I feel that the quality of the product doesn't justify the price. List price being >$400 and some vendors selling it in the low $300's. I ordered mine from United BMW like many people here. Dan has been incredible with his customer service. With that said... My first wing came broken . It seems that the guys at United BMW did a good job packing it (in a HUGE box) and that the box wasn't really damaged. The wing came with a huge... "crack" in the middle. Pictures below... Now whether it be BMW Quality inspection (or lack thereof) or damage from shipping, it's understandable to see it once. Thanks again to Dan for getting a new wing out to me ASAP. Now the next kicker in this story is that my 2nd wing has a little bit of a defect too... On the very edge of the wing there's a 3-4mm "white line" to best describe it. It would look almost like a scratch or when you have a little streak of wax on your car that you haven't buffed off, but it's under the clear sealant or whatever is used to seal the carbon fiber. It's just not enough worth returning or unmounting from my car now that I found it, but it just bugs me a little that BMW of all manufacturers could possibly charge this much for a product that isn't of excellent construction. Am I alone here, or have others felt/experienced the same?

My first wing came cracked near the middle too. Again ordered from Dan and he was super quick and great at fixing the problem and sending me another one.

The second one was damaged as well??!?! :eyebulge:
Shoot me the tracking # via e-mail to dmiles@penskeautomotive.com I will contact FedEx and demand over night freight be paid so that you can have another spoiler in the appropriate amount of time. We have been having HUGE issues with FedEx with these damn spoilers. First, we packed them with a ton of paper.. some got damaged. Second, we wrapped them heavily in bubble wrap.. some got damaged. Finally, we wrapped them in bubble wrap, put them back inside the box, put that box inside another box filled with paper, and they are still getting damaged!! This is extremely frustrating and I'm sorry to hi-jack the thread with irritation with FedEx. They owe us over $3,000 in unpaid spoiler claims Our last attempt is going to have to be to air freight them. Of course, we'll require heavy freight discounting from FedEx to keep the price competitive. Air freight doesn't get damaged nearly as often as ground. To put other questions to rest, I personally inspect each spoiler before it's put into the box. I wrap it myself, and pack it myself. I do not trust my shipping guy with these spoilers. The sad thing is, FedEx is great with everything else. UPS, USPS, and DHL are worse at handling products and we will continue to use FedEx

I would be willing to buy one of the "damged" spoilers as long as the only problem is a minor crack. I wanted to paint it anyways so a cracked one wont matter if all I need to do is fill it and paint it. Send me a PM and let me know. ANd sorry to hear that FedEx sucks balls

Don't worry about it, I don't think it was damaged, I think it's a minor imperfection in the sealing process, I'll post some pictures up later...
Like I said, United BMW has been nothing but good, it's just sad that these things are so fragile. I can vouch for the good packing job that United BMW does. The wing is wrapped in bubble, then w/foam (paper like foam). Then it's boxed up in it's original box and then it's boxed in a LARGE box with TONS of paper...

I ordered from Dan as well. Mine got a slight nick in the corner where the end of the spoiler poked out the end of the box. Not big enough to bother me. Dan did do a good job packing the spoiler.
Dan and united are doing a HELL of a good job, so keep it up. |

Same Prob. here, but didn't ordered to Dan. Seems it's a current damage for all you future buyers.
I was amazed by the poor quality of the product, I was expecting a LOT more. I send the spoiler to a CF specialist and he was amazed it was an OEM piece. |

Mine made it all the way to the butt-end of Africa in perfect condition - even the box was unmarked.

add me to the broken spoiler list as well. my first one came broken like the OP's did and I flipped out. luckily for me, Tischer sent me a replacement item overnite for nothing. then they sent UPS to my house to pick up the damaged unit.
