09, 67K, all good. How do you make them bulletproof? or rather can you drop an electric winding in the housing that is better than original? Or simply change your fluid and get an auxiliary fan maybe? or bigger fan?

If your looking for more cooling... you can buy/order the PPK parts. The PPK(Performance Power Kit) has an extra mini radiator that fits in the driver's fender and uses a HD radiator fan(for more air flow). Dack

just hit 70k miles on my ORIGINAL water pump. Was upgrading clutch so i went ahead and replaced the pump and thermostat. Pump looked dirty and like there was a SMALL leak but was not affecting car and had no issues prior to replacing.

Its probably good you replaced the e-pump. A BMW mechanic friend of mine says they first start to leak/dribble fluid. Then they turn into a gusher!

What recall. There have been many. No water pump recall comes to mind.

The electric water pump(and e-thermostatt) were never part of any recall.
Now perhaps BMW NA might goodwill part of the cost to replace those parts - but its rare. Btw... I just had my own water pump replaced at 76K miles(2010 135i US specs). In the winter months I had a coolant leak, you could see coolant collecting in the belly pan. Once the weather warmed up the leak stopped. But I knew it was my time... I replaced the e-water pump, e-thermostatt and the U-shaped hose connecting both. And the alu bolts for the e-pump housing. My German BMW dealer said that maybe BMW AG would cover part of the repair costs... but since I did all my services myself... I had to pay for it all COD. They hooked me up with a good deal though.

May 2008 135i with 87k miles
Water pump leaking at plastic/metal seam with slow coolant drip leak on belly pan then onto garage floor. Replaced water pump, thermostat, coolant at indy before left stranded and/or having to add coolant/water constantly. $1100 at indy. $1600 at dealer. |
