AND WATCH THE MEXICAN COMMENT! NOT ALL VALET'S ARE MEXICAN, I CAN ATTEST SINCE I AM ONE AND NEVER WORKED AS A VALET. I find your comment to be pushing the racial boundaries.

whoa there turbo,

he said all valet's were mexican, not that all mexicans are valet's

like all squares are rectangles, but not all rectangles are squares

I find your statement to be logically incorrect

Sorry but that comment was distasteful - I'm not a mexican and neither were any of the guys who worked with me.

I'm not agreeing with Amil, but I think if that's how he wants/needs to express himself I think he should be able to.

we don't need to turn into the happy fuzzy politically correct zone do we? (maybe we already are)

Like I said I wasn't agreeing with him, I just wanted to point out that jetmech's logic was clearly faulty.

I have more of a problem with faulty logic than with "offensive" comments

Haha, i wish i had money to throw around. Dont get me wrong, i love my car, but now i have to think twice about buying a cute pair of shoes. The only people who have the $$ out here are the ones who invested in property 20 yrs ago. They are making BANK since a average itty bitty house is $500K+ now.

The statement still pushes racial boundaries, for not all valets are Mexican. He was out of bounds. Period.

I woudn't mind so much it if the fold down seats were a free option as they are in much less expensive cars, but when you pay $475 for the freakin option, you'd expect they spent a bit more time in thinking it through (either remove the pass through from the trunk, or better, add an extra lock like the glove box to the pass through). I hope they at least fix this in future models so that E90's trunk dont' get a reputation that they're extremely easy to break into (although with the current design, I'd hardly call it a break-in, anymore than opening the center counsel bin).
The folding seats are released from inside the trunk; you can't fold them without access to the trunk in the first place.

The hole in this security scheme, however, is the ski bag hole behind the rear arm rest. That can be opened without any release from the trunk.

This is true and it has been a problem! I heard that at the dealer a few times (they have bumped cars because of active steering) and I saw service reps actively warning the guys who are about to take customers' cars away to the shop. The guy who details my car also told me that he almost crashed someone's car because of active steering.

My $0.02:

Referring to the valet as "the Mexican" is pretty bad.

Referring to the valet as a "schmuck making $5/hr" is just as bad.

Saying that one has more problems with faulty logic than offensive comments is disingenuous. This argument will only last until the offensive comment offends you.

The moral of the story is that we all make mistakes and we should all watch what we say.

Maybe I should take my own advice as I probably just offended three people in one post

I agree, it's a "hole" and a pretty big one. You can reach through the ski bag hole after removing the module and release the latch for the fold down seat, in about 5 sec. I noticed a couple of indentations with no purpose in the removable module, and was left wondering if a lock should have gone there. The fold down seats aren't an inexpensive option, so I would have expected a better design. Something along the line of having an identical lock on the module as in the glove compartment so it could have the same valet purpose.
Just from looking at your sig from 3000mi away, I can tell your trunk is not secure and easy to get into. I notice the small blip infront of the headlight, that means you have the cold weather package, which includes that stupid rear seat fold down design. I guess the engineer who designed that part has a predictable life routine only driving his car between the bmw design campus and an upscale bavarian neighborhood.

I used to valet park cars when I was younger and had my share of joy riding in other people's BMW's, Merc's, Vette's or whatever was good that day. Worse than that though were the couple of guys who would search the gloveboxes for money or radar detectors, the same two later wrapped a guys Jeep around a tree while the owner was at a wedding!

If you are going to Valet park, give the attendant $10 when you give him the car and tell him to take care of it. Since it is more customary to tip when you get the car back, he should remember you and hopefully take care of it.

Well, stop eyeing my car!!

If you try to break in, first the siren of the alarm will deafen you. Second, you won't find anything in my trunk to steal, not even a spare

But you don't even need to release the latch... you can pull the emergency trunk release and the trunk will pop open!

All in all though I don't think this is a valet problem. I certainly won't be using valet if I thought it is the kind of estableshment that would employ people that would do such things. I've valet-parked other cars countless times, and lever once locked the glove box or gave them a "valet key". I never lost anything.
