Blower motor question

A few days ago I turned on the heater and there was a sort of dull thud then it came on. When the blower came on it was making a weird noise like it was a helicopter taking off, sort of a vibrating noise like it was out of balance or something.
Also, I need someone to tell me what theres does.
When I use the screen demist setting it blows hard but if I turn it onto ordinary vents to your face or feet it doesn't blow anhything like as hard, in fact, the air isn't coming out with any kind of force at all. Does everyones do this or is this a sign for me that something isn't right.

The heat still works, the air still works, the demist sill works.....just makes a funny noise. Is there something with this that says "it's half way dead" ?

This happened to me years ago. In my case, it was a mouse. They like chewing on, and making nests out of cabin filters. At the time, I thought it was the blower motor. A few warm days later, and the smell told me what had happened. Sure enough, when I got it apart, there was a dead mouse in there...still juicy, too.

I was going to say - it sounds like a rodent could have got in there.

A new blower motor with regulator is about $150 on ECS, the problem will be the labor charge to re and re.

I replaced the blower motor and regulator on my E91 a few months ago and it was not a difficult job - half-an-hour or so. Only minor hiccup was that the tab that holds it in place once it is rotated on was broken off - apparently a very common shipping mishap. Fortunately, there is a screw hole backup.
