I spent today three hours driving on dirty twisty roads and did multiple donuts as well. And then three hours cleaning the car. I'd say that's a time well spent.

Get out and drive & clean, people.

But then again maybe me driving and spending so much time with my car is why I live pretty stress free. I drive because I truly enjoy it. It's relaxing for me. It's entertainment for me. It's not something I do because I don't want to. Spending a day at work my only joy is looking forward to it being over and the drive home in a car I truly love.

If you have lost that same feeling do me this favor,
the next nice weekend you have (and if it's not free make it so) just pick a direction and drive. No destination in mind. Just go. See something interesting in the distance, go to it. Just enjoy freedom and lack of responsibility for one day.
You old farts need it.
LOL
Lol. I have a similar opinion on cars, never been afraid to take them for a drive in whatever weather or add mileage. Especially with the depreciation on a BMW.

On this topic..... Just hit 80k today!

Congrats!

Double that and add 11k, and you have my mileage... I guess the PO either enjoyed the car a ton, or hated it a ton. Either way, I love it a ton!

Plus I have one good blackline so all I'd need is just the passenger side one if I ever felt the itch to have them again. And another thing, my cigarette lighter socket stopped working. It was working perfectly when I dropped off the car, it was not working when I picked it up. I didn't realize until I was already half way home. I'm hoping it's just a fuse because that's the only power outlet I have for my radar detector and phone charger. The aux and USB still work and I've read that those share the same fuse with the cigarette lighter, so that's why I'm a bit worried. I'm going to try replacing the fuse tonight and hopefully it fixes it. Do any of you know which fuse it is?
So I just replaced the fuse and just like I feared, the old fuse looked fine and the new one didn't remedy the issue. Now I can't charge my phone or use my radar detector. Fucking ridiculous
So nobody has any ideas?

Something about it just feels like it's in the same spirit of the 135i.

Amazing things to be done with FBO, strong community around it, runt of the family always aspiring to be closer to it's older brother, which tends to understimate it's little brother (135i vs 1M, Ecoboost vs GT).

I feel like a lot of 135i owners would appreciate the driving experience, especially convertible owners (ie. people who are ok with sacrificing some handling for the sake of overall enjoyment). It also shares a lot of the practicality of the 135i.

I would almost say at this point the biggest deterrent is the fact it's a Mustang. I went and dug deeper into the ones for sale... more than half of them are rentals... So that's having to replace every suspension bit right off the bat (if you've ever driven a rental Mustang, you'll know what I mean, you'd think they've spent their lives jumping railroad tracks)

But then again I was also a little grumpy yesterday, and waking up today I realized I really don't want a Mustang. I don't want to stick out for cops, I don't want ricers trying to race me, I don't want V8 bros and old guys telling me how a 4 cylinder (which is faster with a 1k tune than the outgoing V8...).

This is a second car so I'm not too worried about being reliable, I already have my "adulting car", this is really meant to be something to enjoy.

I'll give it a few more tries for now, I'll also start looking at Boxsters, but they have the same problem that keeps me from just doing the smart thing and getting a Miata... not enough power. The fact is I'm not mature enough to tell myself my car is fast enough for the track, I need it to be fast enough to put me into a wall at a moments notice!

Really I don't want a car that will leave me thinking "Man it'd be cool to slap a turbo on here. Man it'd be nice to get a tune. I wonder if there's a supercharger kit?". I'd rather buy a car with some speed and not use it, than take a car with good handling and ruin it with expensive mods trying to make it fast.

Which tune gives a ecoboost more power than a coyote?

You can remove the shift boot by just pulling gently at one of the corners until it pops out and there should be a connector right there at the bottom of the "picture frame" if I remember correctly (did this a while ago).

Also, you can remove the rear outlet module with a pry tool, and it should be attached to a connector.

Here's a link that has the whole DIY for removing it (I pray that you won't have to remove it!), it has pictures of what I'm talking about:
https://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=213833

Good luck!

Yeah, there is no point in buying a Mustang unless you get the V8 imo.

LOL
I'm not old. I've previously owned several other BMWs that were relegated to unrelenting daily use and got sick of it. Just before I bought my first 135i, I acquired a second vehicle to daily drive when I still had an E36 M3. These days, I cannot imagine going back to daily driving my pride and joy.

Not to mention, I work from home these days. It's not uncommon for all 3 of my cars to sit unused for a few days on end. I still make sure to exercise them to blow the cobwebs out. It's nice to have choices as well. Do I want to fly under the radar or drive something fast? Or slum it in my E30 over to the golf course.

Back when I did daily drive a BMW, I often wondered why I even bothered. I LOVE driving these cars, but all too often my good time is ruined by other drivers who are willfully clueless. The second I would find an opportunity to open it up, a wild Prius would conjure itself up in my lane.

It has nothing to do with being afraid. It's about understand that most days, where I live, there's no way I can actually enjoy the car. Nice scratches on your instrument cluster shield...my car has none of that.

Ok, feeling proud of yourself with that comment? I didn't call you out or anything so not sure what your deal is. Also as someone who lives in DC, with unbelievable traffic, shit roads, ONE highway, and 4 months out of the year with salt on the road I'm not sure I'm in the best area to enjoy my car either, but I damn well find a way every day!

And no, those aren't scratches, it was just dirty. You can still drive your car AND take great care of it, I'm very proud of the condition of my interior despite everything I do with it.

I'm in a similar situation as tock172. I work from home as well so no daily commute. For years I have been driving an '05 Jetta that seems indestructible and is completely reliable to doc appointments and for errands, and drive my 135i strictly for enjoyment.

I take my 1er out practically every day for a fun, spirited drive (the highlight of my day). I fell and hurt my knee and leg recently that's turned in to cellulitis and haven't been able to drive as much as I'd like to but that'll change soon and I'll be back to normal.

I'll be the first to admit that the way I worded that was pretty rude, and I do apologize. No excuses, I was a total dick. Mea culpa.

To clarify, I'm simply making an example of the little things about my previous vehicles that have driven me crazy. My first and second 135i's are the first of several BMWs I've owned throughout the years that were not well past their prime, and I'd be lying if my obsessive nature hasn't gotten worse because of it. Part of it is having driven several other favorites of mine on a daily basis to high mileage and watching the little wear and tear that most people don't notice accumulate.

Again, I probably should've just expressed all of that in the first place as opposed to coming after you, but the, "afraid" comment set me off. I have personally totaled two previous BMW's in single car, driver error accidents and am not proud of it. I'd hate for my 135i to be added to that tally, but that doesn't stop me from driving it hard when I do take it out.
