So, in this first world pheaux argument, what's better-
driving it hard every day as a DD
or
randomly getting it out, but driving hard when you do

I drive it just about every day, but I'm usually pretty reserved (under 18, the insurance is watching closely ), I only 'beat' on it merging onto freeways (you ain't catchin' me!), murdering b-road tarmac, and passing lesser vehicles (Prius').

My Kumhos have around 5k and are already at around 1/2 tread remaining, luckily they're <$90 tires, so I don't have much a care in the world about them, I've gotten my fun out of this set already

Seems to me the answer is
"owning a 1 series is winning the game, driving it is just gravy, and how could you /not/ drive it hard..."

but I asked the question, so answering it myself just seems weird....

I'd surmise that the way I do it is arguably worse for the car's mechanical systems. Things don't like to sit, and my car does a lot of that. Components and systems tend to work better when they are used and heat cycled regularly.

Free range BMW's, now that's the most ethically confusing thing I've ever heard lol

To clarify, I'm simply making an example of the little things about my previous vehicles that have driven me crazy. My first and second 135i's are the first of several BMWs I've owned throughout the years that were not well past their prime, and I'd be lying if my obsessive nature hasn't gotten worse because of it. Part of it is having driven several other favorites of mine on a daily basis to high mileage and watching the little wear and tear that most people don't notice accumulate.

Again, I probably should've just expressed all of that in the first place as opposed to coming after you, but the, "afraid" comment set me off. I have personally totaled two previous BMW's in single car, driver error accidents and am not proud of it. I'd hate for my 135i to be added to that tally, but that doesn't stop me from driving it hard when I do take it out.
Cheers man no worries we've all be down that "road". Apologies for the hard response, it's the Jersey in me

Also totally get the accidents weighing on your mind, my accident (that led to the CF hood/1m bumper/etc.) was 100% my fault and I'm still pissed about it (and paying for it, looking at you, Progressive).

I think both are fine, as long as you get it warm first!! No cold & dry lovin' for me lol

Oy I remember those days. I'll definitely say that keeping it under the radar is the best thing you can do for yourself. And for the love of all that is BMW, get accident forgiveness if it's available.

Don't drink (too much) and drive your 1er or you might get in an accident and put an end to your good luck streak.

I'm glad most of the users of this forum have a thick skin, and that we could come to an understanding. Make no mistake, I still feel like an ass for what I said.

I think this actually may have something to do with my irritability today while running errands and while on the forum. A few of my favorite shows had their season premier last night and I was knocking back the beers during, with nowhere near enough water in between.

You can remove the shift boot by just pulling gently at one of the corners until it pops out and there should be a connector right there at the bottom of the "picture frame" if I remember correctly (did this a while ago).

Also, you can remove the rear outlet module with a pry tool, and it should be attached to a connector.

Here's a link that has the whole DIY for removing it (I pray that you won't have to remove it!), it has pictures of what I'm talking about:
https://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=213833

Good luck!

Need to take the center console off perhaps. It sounds like they missed connecting it properly if they actually had all that taken apart to begin with.

Worst part is I didn't figure this out until I drove all the way back to the body shop. Figured it out in their parking lot. Thankfully it was before I went inside to complain

You'll need a little more than a tune... but here's an 11 second FBO EcoBoost making 544HP, which more than the outgoing 5th gen V8 did, for 5k:

http://www.epicspeed.net/11-second-4...-ford-mustang/

Iirc there was even a dealership selling EcoBoosts with the kit preinstalled for under 30k.

Mind you I'm not trying to say a 6th gen GT wouldn't spank an Ecoboost, mostly my point was the Ecoboost isn't a slouch, and the driving dynamics are definately a little more refined than you'd expect from a Mustang, in no small part to the smaller engine.

I guess it's an edge case, but I think the Ecoboost is probably the best (only?) "Fast Car Slow" car there is under 30k today. There's the Miata and BRZ for "Slow Car Fast", which most people are happy with, but I'm not enough of a driver to fully appreciate buying one of those new... yet .

At this point, it's small miracle I can even get insurance... I wanted to compare rates between insurance companies, Geico (my current) was pretty competitive, but Nationwide wouldn't even touch me , the form automatically deferred me to a secondary company

(and being old I'd imagine you'll forget all about it in a few days, short term going and all)

My rule has been for some time, I must hit triple digit speeds daily. It's been an expensive goal at times. But rewarding. I think that dose of daily adrenaline has kept me young and vital.
But I am fortunate enough to have plenty of area and no traffic roads I can do this on with some safety. I really have no idea what it's like to try and find a fun drive in a metropolitan area. I imagine there is no such thing.
