Angry Break-in oil change = fail !!

I brought my brand new 135i to the dealer last week for an early oil/filter change (break-in oil change @ 2000 km) and I've just received the related invoice ($220 btw...everything is more expensive in Switzerland ;-))

I noticed that these a$$..les used Castrol TWS 10W60 (the stuff you put in M cars) instead of Castrol 5W30 . I immediatly gave them a ring and scheduled an appointement for a free oil change tomorrow.

Do you thing my engine might have suffered from the thicker oil ? I drove for about 1000km since the oil change.

Thanks for your feedback,

P.

That won't hurt the motor, so you should be fine.

Thanks for your feedback. I'm still mad at them...how difficult is it to put the right kind of oil in the car ???

Plenty of turbocharged cars use 15W40, so 10W60 shouldn't be an issue. Especially with a quality synthetic oil.

Yep, but their engine is designed to work with thicker oil...I don't want my engine to break down just after the warranty period because they put the wrong oil in it .

I've just sent a letter to BMW Switzerland regarding this issue. I'll keep you posted.

Well they tried to. I refused to pay for both oil changes (they lost $400)

not the least surprised. They wanted 180 euro for a oil change here in Germany. I found one dealer that does it for 110 if I provide the oil. at least I won't have to worry about getting M-oil. By the way the price Europeans charge for oil is rediculous. Don't get me started on fuel. Thank god I have access to good American prices. (you guys should seriously strike or something lol) If I could I'd give every drop of my extra rations to my german friends.

I'm sure you considered it but I have to say it anyway...

It's ridiculously easy to change the oil in these cars. If you do it yourself it doesn't take very long, you know it was done right and you save enough to pay for a fun night at the bar

The one time I changed it myself it cost me around €45 for the entire thing.
