215 Tires Discontinued, Best Replacement?
Hi folks! I have a 2012 135. I've rocked the Michelin PSS for years now. I'm in dire need of new tires, and I've learned that not only have the PSS been discontinued, but that the replacement PS4S tires don't have the 215/40-R18 for the front tires, and I'm trying to weigh my options.
A. I've found some remainder 215/40-R18 PSS on closeout that I can get, and match with the PSS 245s in the back that I can also find on closeout. Keeping what I have for one more cycle. B. I've read from some in this forum that they have moved up to the 225 tires in the front, and gotten the PS4S tires. I am really ignorant here, so would going from 215 width to 225 in the front cause any potential issues? Turning radius? Rubbing? Speedometer calibrations, etc.? I've tried to read existing posts, but couldn't find definitive answers. It's frustrating that Michelin discontinued the exact tire the car needs. Just trying to make sure I get the best possible option for the 135. I love driving it, and I'd hate to spend a lot of money on a bad fit tire and make it drive worse. Thanks everyone for your thoughts! |

I have Michelin PS4S 225 front/255 rear (stock size wheels) on my 135i with Bilstein B8s and BMW Performance springs, so slightly lower than the stock M Sport suspension, and have no rubbing or any problems at all. You should be ok with that size as well.

I guess I keep my cars too long. 1st, my car took 185/70 R13 and they went away. 2nd. Then my first BMW took 205/55 R15 and then they went away. Now you're telling me my 215/45 R17 is going away? I think its a plot by the tire manufactures in cahoots with car companies to get all of us to buy new cars. (Ain't gonna happen)

Ran into this issue today and came here to see if anyone had found alternative tire sizes. Not interested in anything other than PSS/PS4, glad there is a solution. Will fit with the stock OEM BMW factory wheels? Exact size is 225/40-18 and 255/35-18? Or 225/35-19 and 255/30-19? |

If he wants to keep the stock sizing he just needs to pick a different brand.

At this point, I think the majority of 135i owners present here with the factory wheel setup or the 135is wheels are running an upsized 225- and 255-section set.
BMW purposefully engineered a wide handling deficit between the 135i and 1M. Stretching 215-section tires over 7.5" wheels in the front was part of it. After bubbling one of my original RFTs and then switching to upsized Michelin PSS I'll never go back. |

sorry to hijack the thread but how do you like that setup? I was thinking of going the same way just wondering how different from the sport suspension it feels.

I noticed that the Bilstein struts and shocks are stiffer than the BMW Performance parts, and rebound damping is more composed and not jarring at all. Would definitely get this setup again. The difference is noticeable and worth it.
