Solutions for 135i 335I LSD ?

Hi,

In my mind here are the avalaibles options to get LSD on our toys :

Quaife or wavetrack or Mfactory etec.... Most of them offer helical lock (Mfactory and OS giken provide a plate friction solutions).
Problem : Do you have bolted or welded ring gear? You can see if your is bolted or not :
http://www.vacmotorsports.com/media/.../diffchart.jpg

Bolted? No problem, just buy the LSD and it's not very hard to do it by yourself.

Welded? do this :

Need to know a person who have this equipments, Add some $$$

M3 E9x, ok but you need the two half shaft and to modify the main shaft with half 35i and half M3, so M3 E9x diff (1000$) + 2 half shaft $$ + main shaft $$ + welding and balancing th custom shaft $$.
I think this is the most expansive option with a used diff and maybe you need to change the frictions plates next month ....

Economical options :

Helical MLR LSD 550$ + machining $$ (if manual) :
http://www.mattlewisracing.co.uk/pro...bmw_1_3_series
But i don't know if it fit to a manu 35i and no reviews about quality

Racing Diff locker system (300$) + machining $$ :
https://www.racingdiffs.com/bmw/

it works with spring loaded and ramp angle but the surface of the plates seem to be very small in comparison to the M3 plate system...

Do you have any ideas?
Anybody try the racing diff system?

I think someone like MFactory can provide a fully built LSD for the welded diff, but with a core charge/exchange (you need to send your diff back to them for their future works).

I'm following this though because I have a DCT which also has the welded diff, currently doing research and will be reaching out to MFactory to get some pricing (they asked me to call for pricing instead of working through email).

M3 LSD conversion, easy and nicely upgradable if you need something more agressive.

The stock M3 LSD is not very aggressive, aftermarket clutch plate type is best if you really deserve a LSD. $$$$. If you want it to slide or drag race just weld it, works better and more consistently for those purposes.

Hi, MFactory reply this to my mail :

"The plated types can be used on the road but are clunky and not practical compared to Helical ones (they are much better on the track however)"

And Drexler diffs don't only supply the LSD, they do everything, but expansive : 2.677,50 € and "Additional costs for serviceable parts such as oil seals and bearings are carried by the customer. The cost of these parts is always detailed to the customer in the form of a quote."

Soooooo ...

My plate type is not clunky at all, but smooth and predictable.

My point was more that clutch type LSDs don't have to be/shouldn't be clunky.

LSDs with decent lockup can be clunky (cuz they don't do enough diff action) below the limit. That is one reason why BMW tunes their stock plate diffs so conservatively, because they go on street cars and people will complain if they chirp the tires in parking lots.

If you need a LSD for reasons other than to pose, you will be quite OK with a little rough low speed handling.

BMW stock plate diffs aren't the same as Drexler or OSGiken or other plate diffs.

U mean a clunky one is Ok with some practice?

And yeah BMW is different than Os giken, os giken get preload springs + ramp angle system and M diff get a "pump" to press the plate when the wheel have a high speed difference

If you want to entertain the idea of a Wavetrac LSD that is fully built and ready to bolt-on, shoot us a PM.
