Airbag still waiting recall!
Airbag!! Has anyone got their replacement? I'm still waiting for Bmw to get 1 in for my 1M . Doesn't feel good riding around with possible metal pieces waiting to take me out?

You guys, it depends where you live. I just posted this in the main sub-forum, but you might've missed it: BMW has prioritized replacement based on defined geographic regions. So-called high-temperature/high-humidity regions have priority - the poster in this thread who had his airbag replaced is in Miami - FL is in the highest priority zone. You guys in CA and OR (as well as myself, in WA) are at the bottom of the list.

I got mine replaced this week. I had a loaner starting end of April. You will probably get an airbag quicker if you have a loaner. It took 30 minutes to replace. I'm in Austin, TX.

They had me pick up the loaner at Enterprise. BMW pays up to $45/day. |

Nope. You can leave your car at home. You just sign a letter agreeing you won't drive it until you get the call that your airbag is in.

My car was safe and sound in my garage. My 1M is my DD so I wanted a loaner until the airbag was fixed. It worked out for me since I needed to clean out the garage so I had a Dodge Caravan to help with the cleanup and saved 5k miles on the 1M.
If you don't ask for a loaner they will not offer it. Getting a loaner will get you on a priority list since BMW is paying for the loaner. |

I think it's safe to drive the car a few miles a week to keep the fluids running. The paperwork is there for liability purposes to protect BMW if you drive your car and something happens. |

Here's my airbag recall story...
Confirmed that I could get a loaner the earlier part of this month at my yearly oil change and 5 year service (brake fluid). I got my loaner on the 13th. It was a cool Hyundai Accent hatchback and I was looking forward to having it for a couple of months while I figured out my next move, as I am considering retiring the 1M and getting a Fiesta ST or Mini S until the BMW M2 CSL picture becomes clearer. I got the call today that my car had been updated and it's in my garage now. I probably didn't need to go and get the loaner. The service manager said that no BMW's have experienced an airbag-related injury. YMMV, but I prefer to err on the side of caution when it comes to my baby. |
