Painting stock 135i brembo calipers!

For anyone who is interested:

Over the last few days I've been doing a lot of work on my 135i, one particular job was to grind down the rear caliper to make my 16" rear wheels fit (for a rear drag setup - that'll be another story) and needed to paint/seal the bare aluminum. So I took this opportunity to paint the calipers red with the G2 caliper paint kit. Prep work consisted of wiping them clean, using the provided cleaner, wiping them again and making sure to get all the crevices - but I didnt use any abrasives. There was a lot of caked on brake dust lol. I also put some ebay ///M caliper stickers on them I'm sure I'll get lots of heat for that but I don't care and think they look sweet. The finish isn't perfect but that's what you get with a brush on kit and a short period of time to apply it. I also wish the color was maybe a tad darker.

When I get the brakes rebuilt I'll have them properly powder-coated but until then it looks good to me! Also don't mind all the rust, pretty typical for where I live in Canada.

They look good! I used G2 to paint my calipers green. It's a 10-foot paint job for sure but the brake dust hides my imperfections!

Nice! I was a little worried about the coverage after the first light coat but the third thick coat did the trick. Time will tell how it holds up!

No, but I had the car on four jackstands for the other work I was doing, so I could slide underneath super easily and access all around it. And thanks!

Nice. I plan to do my 128i calipers soon.

I actually "rattle canned" my Corvette's calipers when I changed rotors and brakes with specific caliper paint. I then scraped off the lettering with a razor blade. It's actually held up really well.

Looks nice hope you are ready to break stuff with the drag slicks! Driveshaft and axles especially if you hop.

Should have any hop sorted out with subframe inserts/diff brace, and toe arm bushings. Still might twist an axle or driveshaft tho. If that happens I'll be forced to go with an M3 or ford 8.8 rear end.

Did the same thing last year with high temp paint and clear coat. Turned out great and is holding up very well.

Nice, looks good and matches your paint, I thought about going blue but I figured I'd try out red before I get them powdercoated to see if I like it.

Hey I was wondering how you like those front ECS 2 piece rotors. Been thinking about getting them. Any idea how much less they weigh compared to the stock ones?

I never weighed them, but according to ECS they're 4 lbs lighter per rotor, for a 8 lb front unsprung weight reduction. I like them a lot and they pretty look good when not dirty/rusty from sitting. As far as performance goes, I have no complaints with aggressive street driving and decently high speeds. I won't be using them at the track however, as they're a true drilled rotor which are prone to cracking due to thermal stresses - I'll be getting separate solid non drilled/slotted rotors for the track days later on.
