How Unique is Your Car?
From time to time I see people posting that their car is "1 of 30" with "these" options from the factory. How is this information found?

There was a thread in another forum where someone was able to pull that specific data from a vin. A friend of mine was car shopping and found that only two of that specific combo were ever sold in the US. Someone else might be able to get you the link, I've lost it now

Not at all. A white on black 135i is pretty damn common.
Being 1 of 30 to get cupholders and rubber matts that year isn't unique either. haha

Most of the time when I see that they are talking about 135is models that are listed here -
https://www.1addicts.com/forums/show...861241&page=16 I think there is another list for is verts too. |

Every 1 Series is unique. Just look in a crowded parking lot for one. The one you see will likely be yours.

The biggest downside with that person's site is their database. They are pulling car data from like copart or something. I just ran my 2011 135i and it was comparing it as out of 16, as in there are only 16 N55 135i's in his database so far. |

I do not know the particular details like color congo + features but I know that my car is one among the 586 135is coupes. (135is is a US only parts bin car.)
However, my car in particular is probably the only 135is with the BMW Performance front bumper. If it's not, then my car is probably the only one with an M3 Cluster and the bumper. |

Yeah, agree it's a rare car. I bought my first 1 series in 2008 and in that time I've seen very little of them on the road. I like it like that. I give a thumbs-up if I see a 1er when I'm out driving and sometimes I get it back if they see me. Used to get asked on occasion if it was the new 3 series and that made me have a chuckle.

In the DC area the 1-series is not rare at all. I see them every few days.
That said, they are not as common as most other luxury cars either, not even close.

Obviously people's locations are going to be different but I travel a lot and seldom do I see a 1 series, let alone a 135. I've only seen a couple 1M through all my travels |

The BMW sold a total of 60678 1-series in the U.S. from 2008 to 2013. In that same time period BMW sold 625131 3-series (not broken down by Model or Gen), a 10.3:1 ratio. Even more, in those same 6 model years 38728000 passenger cars were sold in total in the U.S. (2240873 Camrys). That's only 1 in every 638 passenger cars, not to mention all the cars (and trucks!) that have been sold before and the six years since. So, yeah. Uncommon. I have to admit. I did laugh at his comment. There is a weird air about this forum frequently attempting to quantify and qualify things that make them special for owning a BMW. Pontiac only sold 69 (nice) Azteks in 2007, but I doubt anyone is discussing the uniqueness of that.
But hey. BMW enthusiasm is why we're here, so people SHOULD be pumped about their cars. Bring on the VIN decoders!
