The only practical supercar is Porsche 911 Turbo.

You can find out costs from someone you know who owns one or forums.

I don't care what anyone says, or how good the 911 is... if I had that kind of money to burn it would not be spent on a car that looks like every other car that brand sells. I would want something exotic, interesting and exciting.

To me, that's what a supercar is all about.

Maybe when you do have that kind of money to burn you'll feel differently?

I find that too, hands down the 911 turbo is the most practical, and will be faster on the track than most too!

But it just doesn't have that wow factor (looks wise) like Ferrari, Lambo etc.

Head 100% would say 911, heart would say another exotic. I'd probably end up with the Ferrari and sell it in a year with Kenny saying 'I told you so' :P

Wonder if the Audi R8 is any better?

Audi R8 is something I'd like to try, they look great.

Ferrari/Lamborghini isn't really "me". I loved my 911 Turbo, great cars.

Cars like Ferraris Lambos etc are for me like someone I know who bought a HSV and drove it everywhere as though he was in the bowls club carpark - burble burble burble. He just liked having one.

The fact is two thirds of the potential of a 300kph car is redundant. "Race track" you say? Well who in their right mind is going to risk writing off a mega dollar exotic at a track by exploiting its potential?

Porsche 911 Carrera S for me BTW, 996 or one the new 991s. People leave you alone in these though I imagine you still have to put up with the occasional little finger waggle from some sneering pleb.

Why would you want a 996/997 Turbo when there's the GTR? If you're going to get a Porsche go for the GT3 - at least that feels like a proper Porsche.

If you want to slightly raise the budget, there's quite a few V8 Vantages around $150k.

I love the look and sound of a Maserati GranTurismo. I'm sure it's not up there with equivalent priced cars in the performance department but damn it's one sexy car.

As Gazz said, I don't see myself tracking this car so for the road it's got the presence I'm after.

Have you driven a GT3? They are great at the track, rubbish on the road. Noisy, no sound deadening and a harsh ride. I do 99% of my driving on the road not on the track. As a track only car they are great, but they aren't much fun to run to the shops in.

Why a 911 Turbo over a GTR? One's always been the "daddy" as far as everyday supercars go. The 911 turbo competes with Ferrari's, the GTR competes with Porsches and very well I might add

I never grew up wanting to own a GTR (and I grew up when they were winning everything at Bathurst). As fast as the GTR is, its clinical and my left leg and arm work well enough to shift gears.

The R35 is a great car, practical and fast to boot. It's not a 911 though, of the two I prefer the 911 as its a car I'd always wanted. The GTR to me is just a car. But that's the beauty, it makes a market.

Glad the OP got out of the 360 in one piece, from all accounts I've heard they are money pits.

I'm with you there, they are sexy all right. My favourite sounding car name. Say it this way - "Maazzeraaateee", whilst flourishing hand operatically.

I think my biggest worry (if I chose with my head instead of heart) would be stopping at a set of lights in my Porsche and then a 458 rocks up besides me and wishing I was him...
