Any Difference between stock & drop in filter?

IS there any measurable difference in a) Power and b) Sound between the stock filter element and a drop in like a K&N or such?

Hmmm good question. I would also like to know this one. Surprised nobody has commented on it.. Did you do a search? Maybe it has already been posted.

The concensus among BMW drivers seems to be that K&N yields no more power and may not protect the engine as well.
