Share your story - N52 Emissions Recall Campaign
Just had recall work done on my E90 at Baron BMW in Kansas City. What a great dealer. First class service
I dropped the car off at 7 AM, and they gave me a 530i loaner. At 2 PM, my SA called me to say that the car was ready for pick-up. Picked up the car at 4 PM and everything works. The paperwork said that during the software upgrade, the CAS module failed to program. This made the car not accept the FOB. The CAS was special measured and was then programmed correctly. It further said that the steering angle sensor and DSC were calibrated. The rear windows, sunroof, and tire monitor were also re-initialized. This made me a little concerned so I checked if my spare FOB as soon as I got home. It also works. So far everything is good!

I brought my E90 in yesterday. The paperwork says they did 2 software upgrades. I also requested an oil change at 10,500 and they did that also. I got a Z4 loaner for the day, it was fun to drive around with the top down but I was glad to have my E90 back. The Z4 is way too small for me. The E90 seems cavernous after a day in the Z4.
The observations I noticed were that I had to pair up my BT phone again and when I turned on the AC, the green light flashed on and off, went off and then when I turned it off and on, it worked like is is supposed to, it shows a solid green light and cool air. My FM presets were also erased and the idle seems different than before. Other than that, no issues or complaints.

got my car back today from getting this done and a couple other small little things that had TSB's on them. Car feels exactly the same, phone needed to be re-paired, but the saved voice dial numbers were still there.
The dealer had the car ovbernight but gave me a 325 as a loaner so it was fine. All in all a great first experience at the dealer's service department. |

Got mine done yesterday. Took all day to get the software upgrade required and I had to repair Bluetooth phone as others mentoned. Otherwise, everything seems fine.
They also replaced the "telematics control unit" under another recall. Also got a free tank of gas when I showed them the BMW bulletin on this recall thats said BMW would reimburse the dealer for a tank of gas. |

I did mine two weeks ago. Dropped Monday 11am and pick-up on Wednesday 12pm. Got a brand new X5 3.0. They did the annual change of oil, state inspection, software upgrade and emission recall. After the software upgrade was done my radio didn't work and they said they have to replace the radio (Tuesday afternoon). Next morning (Wednesday), they call me and told me that car was ready and there was not need for them to replaced cable and the problem was solved. They restored all my preset stations. Had it back for two weeks since and no problems found.
PS: I did missed my 330i those three days. I'm not a fan of SUV and the X5 was way too heavy for me. I'm glad my baby is back.

Dropped of car at dealer last Monday noonish to fix squeaks from doors and domelight. I'd forgotten about recall, they told me they'd do that plus first service. Gave me 530xit and told me I was gonna be a soccer dad for a day. Called me about 2 hours later wondering if I'd taken my fob with me. I told them that they had it. They said ok. I started to get worried. During lunch someone backs into 530xit in his giant pick up truck. Find out he's actually an E60 driver, damage isn't noticeable and I let it go. Next day dealer calls me to come pick up car. They said they cleaned my door seals, updated software but couldn't replicate dome light rattle.
My radio presets are gone and I have to pair up the Razr. Works fine after that. All radio presets are gone - no matter, nothing to listen to in Savannah except for country music and crunk/dirty south hip hop. Driving home, can't help but notice that my car has a lil' more zip to it, throttle reponse is faster. After the 530xit, I really appreciate the smaller size and lower weight of my car. Also, my interior seems more upscale than 530 (bad fit and finish, ugly steering wheel, even uglier cupholders). But I did start appreciating I-drive, now (almost) I wish I had it. |

Emissions recall campaign report
I mentioned this previously, but I had two surprises after the work was done:
The stability control system doesn't seem as intrusive. On a twisty section of US 101 between Santa Rosa and Ukiah, the car doesn't lose speed in the corners with the cruise control on as it did before the updates. Also, my (non-supported) Cingular 8125 Pocket PC Phone had to be repaired with the car, but once I accomplished that I've had none of the headaches I did earlier MAINTAINING the pairing. |

Experience with Recall Upgrade
Took car to BMW of Arlington as I needed the wheels balanced. They knew I needed the software update and provided me with a E90 325 loaner. Dropped car off at 8:00 a.m. and was ready the next day at noon. Only thing I needed to do was pair the phone again. Also, the RDS on the radio is now operating (I have a pre-Sept build). Service was excellent and they did not charge me for the wheel balancing. I asked about the IPOD integration and was told it would be available sometime in July. SA then reminded me about my free annual maintenance coming up. Overall, excellent experience and service and have had no problem with the software upgrade affecting any other features.

Does anyone hear knocking noise from their car after the recall service? Mind does. I am trying to figure out if it is normal temporary behavior or caused by regular gas filled by dealer.

you're still on the same tank of gas?? wasn't your dealer issue a few weeks back?? it it was the gas, the issue would go away just about immediately once you filled up with the right stuff |

had mine done about a month ago. Dealer didn't know about the gas top-off clause, but filled it right up after I showed them the SIB
