Winter Storage

Well it's officially winter because I put the last of my toy's away today: My beloved 135i is gently tucked in for the long winters night. Anyone else out there feeling blue ?

mines been there for about a month now. Are you puting stablizer in or doing anything else for storage? I drive my 89 325ix in winter still a blast!

Another month before I store mine. I will put sta-bil in the tank. Anyone worried that the RFTs will flat spot if left standing in the same place for several months?

As to the RFT's, park for 2 weeks, roll the car forward 1-foot(ish), 2 more weeks, roll the car backward 2-feet(ish), 2 more weeks, move the card forward 1-foot(ish), repeat...:wink: The traditional method is to drop $400 on tire cradles, yikes!, I'll move the car, thanks.

The dealer also suggested starting the car every few weeks, allow operating(ish)-temp to be achieved.:wink:

BMW recommends connecting your car to a BMW Battery Maintainer, they're about $70. Dealer mentioned nothing about a fuel stabilizer as he is aware my 135 will be off the road for between 4 and 5 months. For you folks storing longer, some research might be appropriate, perhaps a call to the dealer would be in order. Please, consider your warranty.

Of course I am secretly hoping that global warming means that the coldest day we get all winter is 40F and I can drive all year round!

So far global warming has just made it cold earlier where I'm at.

Good advice, Surname. I already planned to starting the car every couple weeks, but didn't think about moving the car back and forth to avoid flat spotting the tires.

I hate winter...

Ditto the I hate Winter

I have put my 1 up with cover in the garage and will start her every two weeks or so and may take her around the block when it is dry outside and not too cold. It breaks my

not driving her all winter. But, it will almost be like having a new car in the Spring:thumbup:

Fuel stabilizer treatment is a good idea if it is going to sit all winter. Moving the car back and forth a foot or so is good for the tires and wheel bearings. A small trickle charger in the trunk is also a good idea.

Mine will just stay indoors when it is below freezing, or if there is snow on the ground. I expect a week or two at the most over the next few months.

Best winter car!!!! I had an '88 325ix coupe, far far better than my E46 330xi. I miss it terribly.

I've been storing my NSX every winter for over a decade and have never used fuel stabalizer with no ill effects. I did invest in tire cradles this summer and you absolutely should use a battery tender. JMO
