What’s up guys. I’m having an issue with a 30fc code. My searches have yeilded nothing really.

Looking for any insight on how to go about fixing this. Thinking about smoke testing it. Am I on the right path?

Here’s a pic of what’s done to the car already

Ok are you sure its not 30ff code? Start with replacing your vacuum lines, boost solenoids and if necessary adjust the rear turbo rod arm. I had to reset the error a cpuple of times to get rid of it finally. There is a lot of info out there. Good luck 👍

Positive it not a 30ff.
The vacuum lines have been replaced recently by the previous owner. I’ll check that out.

Would a smoke test be the right tool for this?

Well if its not 30ff which is a low boost issue. You may want to check into your vanos soleoids too. But I would do more research on that particular code? I m not familiar with it.

Ya it seems like most searches yeild people like me looking. And then the replies are eerily similar to this thread.
I will look into the vanos solenoids.

I also read that a misfire can cause a dashboard error. You want to check your coils and spark plugs.

For 30fc? Interesting. Not sure how that would be related. But will look into it. It has new ngk plugs and Eldor coil packs

Found this snippet on bimmerpost. What altitude do you live?

30FC can be a few things. Tune related, altitude, wastegates
Tough to diagnose. Most people with wastegate issues tend to NOT make boost, you go over target. You are at high elevation so could just be tune related ?
I remember a couple of people getting that code when normally at a lower altitude, then climbing higher altitudes. When they were back at their regular altitude, code went away after clearing it and never came back.
See what menu 12 is set at , but if it never happened before, and you are at same altitude, and no changes made to the car or flash, I doubt that could help but worth a try.
Your FF in last two logs is pretty high, but can be caused by higher altitude.

I read that thread too.
I’m in La so altitude isn’t an issue.
I do appreciate you searching though. I’m kind of at the point where I don’t know what to check.
I’m not getting obvious boost leaks. I cleared the code last night and did a few pulls. And drove it about 80 miles today and the code didn’t come back. Kind of at a loss

I’m wondering if the wasgegate duty cycle is set wrong. But I’d think the code would have returned if that was the case.
I’m about to make a smoke leak tester.
