lol... I think the work is not HP related but more power delivery (linear), better cooling and how robust the car should be as an ///M car. I would rather have a conservative 250kw turbo car that delivers the power in a linear, non lagging, non overheating manner as compared to a car with i.e. 300kw with major lag and heating issues. Plus with the downsizing of engines with the next generation model, they need to be a little conservative with this one I guess.

is this one of those BMW's "I am teasing you to death"?
Nonetheless, 451 bHp doesn't sound bad at all from TT6.

Thanks for the write-up.

Also; to all of you wanting more than 340hp... WHY? 340hp is more than enough for this car. If you can outdrive that much power at the track in a stock 1M setup, I'd be very surprised. If you want this power for straight-line speed, go buy a Mustang GT. It's mind boggling to me. This car sounds epic just the way it is.

I'd like to add that 451hp for this segment from BMW seems a little unrealistic. Makes sense in the next M3, however. Unfortunately I feel that we are going to have to kiss our high redlines goodbye.

Bingo. That's why it's 340hp and not more. The experience from the M car should be as you described! Nicely put.

Option A - 340hp leaves room for aftermarket tunning to the 400hp realm and beyond
Option B - 451hp leaves room for aftermarket tunning to the 500hp realm and beyond

Which of the above 2 is more likley to be the case for the 1M?

BMW would love for everyone to play with the 1M in the option "A" territory because option "B" is all M3 territory.

Think about it, sales would fall flat on their face for the M3 if most folks can buy a 1M and tune it to eat M3 for breakfast. The only way the 1m would come with option "B" mentioned above is if the M3 is going to be upgraded as well for higher HP numbers (which i think we all agree that this is not the case).

Just a lil scenario to think about. carry one fellas

So, basically, it will have the same power as the z4 35is? I expected a bit more than that from an M car. I'm sure it's enought and the handling, fun, etc. is going to be great, but I expected more power than the non M Z4.

OPTION B: With tuning up to 500 hp would be in the m5 m6 territory with its weight advantage. Not likely

Dont forget if the m3 comes with 451 it will be easily tunable just like our cars.

^^Thanks for the input.

Look at the BIG picture guys, BMW will release this car with the proper HP performance as to not step on its other cars in the lineup.

On a personal note: A 375whp-400whp Tuned 1M would be more than enough for me.

Long time no see, everyone. (There are most likely other lurkers here, who haven't posted in years...but are anticipating behind the scenes for the new M1's release with heartfelt enthusiasm.)

Using simple logics here, I would go as far to as to speculate that the engine will be 340hp from the base point (e.g. fuel consumption, emissions and every day drivability's sake) and the full 451hp are available after pressing the "magical button" we've been hearing about. But, soon we'll know for sure-- it's not far until December.

Why would it be visible in the U.S. specification on the screenshot's list? Can anyone dig up some regulations in which the engine's full output would be required to be stated clearly for any U.S. imported/produced cars? Would make sense as well. After all, we're looking at EU5 regulations here in Europe.

By looking at the patterns of the list, why would the 451hp be an M3? It seems that the section of the list we are looking at is all 1-series.

It's a long list from the size of the scrollbar if that means anything...

340 is enough for the 1M. If your not happy with the power output, there's always aftermarket tuners out there. Upgrade the ECU, pulleys, headers, downpipe, intake, exhaust, and tune will give you at least 370-400 whp.

Why ask for 451 hp? Just like what others have mentioned here, 451 hp is meant for the next generation m3. With the 1M having 451 hp, people will not even look at the next gen M3 any longer. BMW engineers will not jeopardize the next gen m3's sales just because of the 1M. Lemme add, if the 1M really had 451 hp, how much will the next gen M3 have?? 550+ hp? Your already touching the M5, M6 territory. This will definitely affect sales for the M5 and M6...

So what if the 1M's hp is just like the Z4 35is'?? This car is a different breed on it's own.

Really? Disappointed that that 1M is not a limited edition, because you hoped it would reach a cult status like the e30 m3? That is insane. The original e30 m3 was not built in limited numbers to make it a rare car, it was built that way because BMW was quite literally trying something brand new with a race-ready everyday car. IMO the lack of exclusivity will play into the 1m becoming the stuff of legend. Good milage, small chassis, rear-wheel-drive, and room for four. Do you know what that reminds me of? The E30 M3.. people quickly forget that the e30 m3 also 'only' had a 7krpm redline.

I'll take one of those... that sounds more realistic than a 1M with 450hp.

The 1M will be more rare than the E30 M3. The E30 M3 had more than 17k copies made world wide. No way the 1M will get to those numbers in the limited time frame it is scheduled for production.

I dont know where it is, but I remember reading some time back something about a limited edition 1M GTS - type car. Anyone else recall?
