Clicking sound turning right (with VIDEO)

Guys,

I have an annoying clicking sound turning right. Sometimes it has to be a sharper turn. This is all at low speeds.

I shot a video because there's no exact way to describe a sound...
Any ideas on what is the cause?

Hard to hear it with the background noise. Think I did. Sounds like it varies with wheel speed.

Try this. Jack up the car and with the wheels off the ground turn the wheels to the right, and spin the wheel. Do you get the same click?

I jacked up all 4 wheels, one at a time an checked for any loose connections.
All seemed ok. I think I did spin the wheels....Can't remember.

But one thing seems obvious: The front left suspension needs to be loaded quite a bit. I normal left turns it doesn't make any sound. But turning the wheel a bit more and harder (quick turn)...it appears.

That's why I tried a lot of weight transfer to the left on the video.

I had this turning right after installing my Bilstein B12 kit and m3 front sway. I had a shop look into it, and nothing was loose anywhere, but after they took off the wheels and put them back on (and properly torqued the wheel nuts) it went away until I took it to a track. After that it happens on hard turns in both directions with the struts loaded.

There's no visible sign of rubbing anywhere inside the wheel wells on mine, so aside from removing and reinstalling the wheels, I'm not sure how to fix it.

There have been some other random threads on here about it, and the problems have been everything from wheel bearings to loose sway bars to bent brake shields.

Hopefully someone else can chime in on their experiences with it.

Sorry. My bad....Forgot to say the car is completely stock.
I took it last week to the dealer because of two noises.
One was the disc protection plate rubbing when turning hard left (no idea why and where it rubbed).
But this one is more of a challenge.

Maybe it's like ZachStowell says. Something to do with the wheels.

One other thing. For the exact same corner, it is not consistent.
I think that when the engine is colder it makes no sound.

The video shows a small "lap" around some buildings.
The first "lap" (not in the video"....no sound at all). But then I went again and the result is in the video.

From what you have observed, any change in sound if you apply the brakes vs no braking?

But why do you suggest that?

Brake pads move in the caliper. If the brake pad or caliper itself is a little loose it takes a lot more movements (heard as clicks to you) to settle into the new position as you go around a corner.

Could also be something stuck around the pad in the caliper or between the shield and the rotor, or between the rotor and the caliper, lots of places for junk to hide in there. As ZachStowell mentioned above there are a LOT of reasons you might get a clicking noise from the front, some small some big.

Think small problems before thinking big problems. Small problems are cheaper and easier to fix.

Its your wheel bearing... i have had the same thing 4 times!!!

It makes perfect sense. It seems speed dependent and only acts when there is heavy lateral load. It's as if the wheel bearing moves in that situation

Any simple way to test it? Removing wheel or applying some pressure somewhere?

Just checked. Braking makes no diference. It really seems to happen only once hot

And only when the wheel that makes the noise is loaded right? Warmed up + Increased Load + Turning?

I'd say wheel bearing. Are you still under CPO or some kind of warranty?

I have the same problem. I found a message on m3post that points to the rotors, though I don't know if the 1-series has the same design.

Given that you say braking has no effect, I am thinking bearing as well. I have noticed mine does not make the noise until warmed up, but I have not checked braking yet. EDIT: braking has no effect.

Sounds like it might be time for someone to start a wheel bearing thread, so we can see how many people have had this issue. I haven't had it yet but it doesn't excite me at all.

Just to add some info. My 135 is reaching 60k miles.
All stock, including wheels and suspension.
I'm really assuming it's the bearings, but i'll inform you once I get it serviced.
I do have kind of a CPO (warranty provided by a third party) but I get the feeling it won't help me much.

Any info on aftermarket wheel bearings? Like Skf? Any good?

Just back from the dealer for warranty replacement (2012 model, 37,000 miles) of not just one, but both front wheel bearings. The dealer noticed the passenger side was ticking, too, just not as badly.

After the repair, no more ticking.

That's great news. And yours sounded just like mine, right?
I've done some more test taking into account what I've read.
- Swapped front wheels with each other and the noise remains the same
- Cleaned inside of the wheel and hub - no diference
- Torqued everything under 120NM, then over 120NM and exactly 120NM - Same result

I noticed one other thing. Under hard breaking or bump sometimes I hear it as well.
I once seem to hear a single click from the front right wheel, but very rare.

I did the following test where you can hear what I think is the same noise.
Moving back and forward with hard braking:

No idea if it's the same cause.

I just started hearing this clicking noise after installing the Bilstein B12 kit. Just the way you described it, I hear it at low speeds and sometimes in low speed sharp turns.

I think it's coming from my rear driver's side wheel.

Could it be sway bar end links? I've been told that the noise could be the end links.
Since you lowered yours...could be.

I get a clicking noise from the rear wheels under hard cornering, as well as when I am making tight u-turns.

Try applying some anti-seize to the hub, anywhere that the wheel touches the hub. And then re torque the wheels to 86ft/lb.

It fixed the clicking noise for me.

i have the same ticking under hard cornering. usually starts after 4-5 min of hard canyon turns.
