135i In production early
So i recently ordered a 2012 135i in DSB. I got the production number and i was slated for week 27 Monday July 4th. Yesterday i called the 800 number to be told i was in production with a scheduled completion date of July 16. My question is does it usually take that long just to build one single car? Just like everyone else the anticipation is killing me.

From what I recall, I think it took under 10 days for my 135i.. Actually, it might have been something like 7 days or so.
The entire process is pretty inaccurate. My car was sitting on the "En Route" status for a long time, then yesterday it changed to at "BMW Preperation Center" and within two hours of that I got a call from my SA that my car was read to be picked up. I had ordered this car somwhere around June 7th. So if there are no holidays or other plant shutdown type of things, you should have the car much sooner than that. |

On average a car is in production for one week. Check the sailing schedule on the Wllenius Wilhelmsen website for sailing schedules. Ships leave Bremerhaven quite frequently for New York.

Thanks guys for your advice. Im starting to get a little worried now since my car has been In production since June 30th but still no updates. I guess we will just have to wait to see what happens. Im hoping to make the July 20th Boat to NYC.

You update is eminent. I got mine yesterday after two weeks in production. I talked to my CA on Tues and he told me that "in production" means that the options are frozen and that BMW is gathering all the parts for the car and that two weeks is typical.

Annoyed
Ugh. So as of right now July 14th my car is still at status 150 scheduled for production Since June 30. According to the 800 Number my car will be completed by tomorrow July 15, which i highly doubt. I'm starting to wish i never ordered and had them look for one for me. All of my questions remain unanswered from the 800 to my CA. I also still have not seen the 1,000 dollar deposit withdrawn from my credit card. I think im going to cancel the order Monday, because so far its been an ultimate waste of my time.

I understand your frustration, believe me. I ordered my car on June 27, and I still have no scheduled production date. However, there isn't a single car in the country that has the options and color I want. So I will wait it out, and I'm sure it will be worth it. If you want a car that's a pretty common color with common options, your dealer may be able to find one for you. But if you want a car that was built specifically for you, the wait will be worth it.
