'12 135i Front Brake Pads

What's up yallll,

It's that time of my ownership of needing to replace my front brake pads. Any of recommendation on which ones? Where to buy? How much to spend? Etc.

I appreciate it!

I've got a 2012 135i if that matters!

Thanks y'all,
Brandon

Also,

How much time do I have after it tells me to have them replaced? Obviously ASAP, but can it wait a bit?

I'd recommend Akebono Ceramic pads for a daily. Super low dust, quiet, easy on rotors. Less expensive than pads from the dealer, but not the cheapest ones out there. Porterfield R4-S pads would be a close second, but only if you're a relatively 'enthusiastic' driver, as they're a little more dusty than the Akebono pads.

When the light goes on in the car, you've probably got around 1k miles until they're actually toast (daily driving conditions).

Unless there is something recent, Akebono doesn't make 135i pads.

I have the Cool Carbons. They are supposed to be low dust but they still dust. Quiet which I like. All in all do the job I wanted for a street pad.

Porterfield R4S is one of the best street pads out there. Stoptech Sport is just as good.

Stoptech sport are horrible. Worst pad I think I've ever used on the street.

Honestly, BMW OE pads are pretty hard to beat in terms of operating range and braking coefficient. Dust is just a function of your car being able to stop even when its 30f outside lol...

Oops, my bad. They do for the F30 335i, and the 128i, so I assumed they'd also make them for the 135i...

I love my Porterfield's. The best part is that both the R-4S and R-4 are compound-compatible, so you can swap to the R-4 at the track with no need to re-bed your rotors, or to keep a second set of rotors.

I've heard awesome things about the Cool Carbons, especially the noise (or lack thereof).

Yes, no rebedding when switching between the R4 and R4S!

I called a couple local shops and they were quoting ~$500 just to replace the fronts! Is this normal?

I ended up buying BMW Front Brake Pads for ~$140 and got them installed at a local shop for $170.

Now I've gotta do the rear brake pads and he was gonna charge me ~$270 (parts + labor)

Yep, but $500 is a bit excessive!
