need help on getting a 135
I have a 128i...I am going to get a 2012-13 135i or is.
I want a 6 sp with over size brakes if possible. Would that come in the "sport" package or the "M" sport one? And one last thing...is the cost worth it to get the "IS" I know its more HP but not sure about the rest... I was thinking of getting a tuner and save the money... But truth be told I dont really know what is the best way to go. Thanks! Garth |

All 135’s have the larger Brembos and if you can’t find an “is” or the prices are out of your range just get a reg 135 and add the PPK kit which gives you the same power as the is model. Or even better add one of the hotter aftermarket tunes which give you a bunch more ponies. The aftermarket tunes are easy to install, inexpensive for the amount of Hp, tq they add and very safe for the powertrain if you don’t go too high up the power level.

Aside from the wheels, there isn't much appeal to the is. I've seen some funny list prices for IS's on this site in the for sale thread, but they don't seem to actually sell for those inflated prices.

If you're the kind of person who likes limited/special edition things (admittedly I am lol) then the 135is is pretty cool. Dash badge, unique floor mats, wheels, blue seat stitching (I think), and PPK tune are some things that come with the 135is.
However, like mentioned above, I couldn't find a 135is with the miles+condition+price that I could find a 135i for. I would love a 135is but the (is) wasn't worth more miles for the same cost. Big brakes on all 135i

I only considers an IS. I wanted the performance exhaust, the extra HP, the wheels, the last year possible, its beautiful. I also knew that I would do the Dinan tune. I wanted everything to just work, and be Uber reliable. which it's been. Never once considered I should have bought a not-IS

IS also has the auxiliary radiator and heavy duty radiator fan. To add these pieces to a non IS, you have to get the PPK2 kit. But from what I understand, it's hard to get the hardware pieces as the PPK2 kit. I've seen some mention people had to piece together the individual parts themselves.

Thing to keep in mind with the is, and other cars 2012 (I think) or later, is that the DME is locked and will need to be removed and sent somewhere to get unlocked, in case you want to tune the car with something like MHD.

For the locked DMEs, the PPK and Dinan tunes do not require a bench flash to unlock the DME to apply the tune.

I didn't have to sent the DME out for a Dinan tune, but had it done at an authorized dealer.

The iS is a port installed accessories package you can feasibly install yourself, so it’s just a matter of the cost. I knew that I was going to be doing a lot of mods to my car, from tuning to suspension, so spending more in the iS didn’t make sense, in my case. If you don’t want to touch the car, then it may be a good option.

Like duder13 said. My thinking was that 2013 was the last year, so most of the kinks had been worked out by then. I didn't want to mod cars anymore and the IS had a few of the little extras.

What he said. Except I found out that the IS suspension is garbage, so did coilovers and a few other things, now it's perfect. And and a Dinan tune, because why not.

Damn 1Addicts blog!!! I didn't want to hot rod cars anymore and just leave well enough alone! I already started with the Dinan tune and have thinking about wheels/tires/suspensions...I've only had the car 6 months!!!
