Bmw jack failure
While changing my rear calipers, the jack failed.
Long story short. I lifted the car with the jack, put 2 stands, lowered the load in the stands, removed the wheel, replaced the caliper. Then put he wheel back, raised the jack to relieve the stands, removed both stands and when I moved the lever to start lowering the jack, the car suddenly felt. Luckily nothing happened. After inspecting the jack I found it stripped the threads of he cylinder were the big screw threads in. The screw seems intact, but shows a lot of metal shavings from the cylinder. Has anybody experienced this type of failure? This is the jack that comes from BMW as a kit with a torque wrench, lever, nice carry bag, gloves,... |

Not a BMW jack, but a new VW jack did the exact same thing, I would imagine the top four German car manufactures source their jacks from the same factory.
