Leather Care Help!!! - Blue Jean Dye on Coral Leather

A family member visited for a few days and used my car. Only 3 weeks old and he was wearing brand new jeans. It rained a bit last week and I have noticed a significant amount of dye transfer from his jeans on my Coral Red seats.

My car is only 3 weeks old with 1600km so the stain is new. Any suggestions for removal?

There was another just like you last week. Do a search, I don't know what the outcome was!

PS
In that case it was sweat, but the same problem with jeans on coral red.

Just use a damp cloth

I used to get black dye on mine all the time from my black jeans. A damp (not wet) cloth and some gentle rubbing takes it off.

Yes, go with the gentlest approach first. Generally a damp towel, followed up with a dry one will do the trick. If that's not enough, consider a proper cleaner like Leatherique or Spinneybeck.

Lexol Leather Cleaner! This is the recommended product by BMW, Audi, MB, and others. I only use Lexol Cleaner and then the Lexol Leather Conditioner.

My wife's blue jeans stained her Mini's leather. Get a soft sponge, dampen the seat, then put on a few sprays of Lexol cleaner, give two minutes to soak. Then rub and wipe the excess off. Repeat until the stain is gone, then use a clean damp cloth to wipe any/all cleaner off. Allow to dry.

Then use Lexol Leather Conditioner to moisturize and protect the leather.

Do not use Armorall Leather cleaner, it has too much alcohol in it. Only use Lexol.

Lexol is not going to cost too much either.

Here is a link I found.

Anyone else try this stuff?

Found an article on it... funny they even say get it from a horse riding supply store too.. LOL

Anyone that uses leather cleaner for saddlery, it's got to be good. Right?

There are much better leather care products out there than Lexol. I used Lexol for years, and it's just okay. I am much, much more satisfied with Spinneybeck. Here's a good read on general leather care if you haven't seen it:
http://www.leatherz.com/leathercare2.htm

Spinneybeck is nice enough to be used on my aniline leather chairs, and they make specific treatments for most types of leather, not just an all in one product.

A friend of mine just bought a 1998 M3 convertible and the previous owner had not taken good care of the seats and beat himself up over the price because of it. A once over with Spinneybeck and it's almost as good as new. I might still hit it with Leatherique, which is the best product I've found yet for restoring neglected leather.

For the record, Griot's stuff works splendidly on Coral. The standard interior cleaner + leather care is a great combo.

I'd guess that folks like Phil and FMinus have preferred products from more specialized vendors - might be worth looking through their detail-threads to see what products they used on colored leathers.

I had a parking lot attendant leave a blue sharpie pen free to roll around on my leather for 3 days or so. Zaino bros leather cleaner took it off in one spray and one wipe. I couldn't believe it. Try it on your coral red.

Not to hijack the thread but I just bought a 1991 LS400 and the leather feels like an elephant's ass. Is there anything out there that will bring back the soft feel of the leather ?? Thanks.

Any light colored leather is subject to dye transfer. If you can afford nice leather seats, don't buy Wal Mart Jeans.

Use the aforementioned products to keep any marks from setting. Keep microfibre towels, and leather cleaner in the trunk.
