used 125i e82 coolant issues
Talking to a guy on marketplace right now offering a 2008 125i e82 with 200k km, everything looks like its in perfect condition but he says it has some coolant issues, hasn't specified what kind yet but it's a 5 hour drive (around 450km) and i'm wondering if it's a good deal since it's less then $4k and still has rego + has carplay. Anyone know how hard it would be to fix the issues while i'm down there or how much it'd be?

Is it a six-cylinder car?
There's some minor things it could be, but I'm not sure if I'd risk the long drive like that. A good deal like that is tempting though. Maybe if you can prove it's something simple and you can fix it on the spot. It all very much depends on your skill, the situation with the seller, and what's broken. Expansion tank, a hose, mickey mouse flange, these are things that might be doable. A water pump/thermostat is a much more involved job, but I'm not sure if those often leak or simply cease to do their job. For my n51, once the first coolant-related thing lets go, I intend to replace ALL of it. FYI you need the correct coolant (genuine BMW or there's probably a pentosin that fits) or you will have problems. Also, be aware of the self-bleeding procedure, which is awesome and easy, but equally mission-critical. |
