I fall into the 34+ category and I'm very happy with the life I've worked for......I'd just like to someday find a best friend to share life with

Most of my male friends feel the same way.....we've worked hard, made some sacrifices in life and would like a GF who is also a professional.....I dont want a trophy, I want a best friend who's a woman who has actually done something with her life too.

I think you're way off on the "Man" and woman being independent/domestic thing

A guy can be a "Man" without the woman necessarily being "traditional" in terms of roles

And a woman can be a "Woman" while having a career/nice car of her own etc etc

One of the biggest problems in my last relationship was that my ex DIDNT want to really be an adult. earn her own money and have a useful career/purpose....she just wanted a token job and for me to take care of everything......I didnt want a dependant......I wanted a best friend.

You're right of course, I see this in my life and I would never in real life even suggest more traditional roles being needed. That post needed serious editing but I ran out of battery.

I meant, it's tough on men, especially for those who saw their lives going one way, and us women here walk out earlier and easier when shit hits the fan because we can. It truly seems like relationships are for the time being instead of trying to stick with them. Of course the ones living in hell stay there here too, so this only applies to women who are doing well anyway.

The example mentioned, my friends. Too many of them got married for the first time around the same time as I did, too many of those failed for reasons I can only guess about and then and this summer all the time we spent together was at someones "ding dong the bitch moved away" parties for the second serious attempt for a relationship failing. The guys just weren't putting in the work needed if you ask me, and they now pretend they are young and happy, while they cook their microwave dinners home alone.

Marrying for love only seems stupid, marrying your best friend and the person you truly can not live without seems like the way to go. I'm sure you will find your happily ever after because you've obviously thought about your goals.

Just gimme the babies when you get to that part. My kids are too big these days and I really could use a few more diaper machines.

If I had to start over and choose a mate, I would spend a lot of time looking at their philosophical beliefs about things I value. Then, I would go from there. Superficial details are like a Ferrari/Fiero kit car. The outside may look good but you won't be too thrilled driving it for decades to come.

You guys all say that but I don't see this actually transpiring in reality. My friends and I are all 30+ professional women, own our homes, work, etc etc and all single. It really doesn't seem to matter to the men we meet. A successful man doesn't necessarily need a woman with all of that. He'll go for the hottest woman possible that's smart enough to manipulate him into locking it down by using her sex appeal/appearance and/or nagging him to death for a ring.

It took me several minutes to walk through this OT mess started from Lups with what goal? To really find a man for your GF or whatever? 7 pages of almost crap and hence we're OT its no wonder, but Im every time extemely impressed, how fast such threads are going elsewhere but the main thing.

Men can definitely make some really stupid choices. Personally I grew up in Europe and I will only date women who are independent and work hard. Maybe it's because of my background, but that doesn't intimidate me at all. I'm successful, but that doesn't mean I have any interest in taking care of anyone, nor do I want to deal with BS and drama. I want a team mate and partner, not a dependent that sits on her ass all day and has nothing better to do with her time than to make up problems that don't exist. I see it soo much where I live, the idle rich housewives that do nothing but complain when they have nothing to complain about. Well maybe except their loveless marriages.

Honestly, I'm a huge waste of money. My interests keep taking and taking and though I only spend what I make, even I admit I could do more financially for my family, and not someone elses family.

The three letter handle guy above said it very well, he also wants a partner, not for his wallet but for a life.
