I am a new member to this board. I am looking for some feedback from those who are much more knowledgable than me regarding 1M's. I know someone who looking to sell a 1M AW with nav. He is considering trading it in on a new purchase. I am trying to convince him to sell it to me as I think he will be lowballed on a trade from dealer. The owner bought car from new. it has been maintained by a BMW dealer. Car has 8,000 miles on odometer. Based upon what I see for sale both dealer & private party, I think the car is worth about $60,000.00 Am I shooting too low? I don't want to insult the seller but I do not want to overpay either. It is a really perfect, no-stories car. Any information on what you forum members think will be appreciated.

IMO with 8K miles, assuming no crash history, no significant cosmetic issues, no modifications, then $60K about right for a sale between friends. He or she might be able to get a little more with some effort, but if they're considering trade in clearly they're not willing to deal with the hassle. Yours would be a fair offer.

60K is fair in my opinion between strangers. Between friends, 56-58K.

Nav doesn't add any significant value in 1M.

Eh, I’d pay $60k all day for an 8k mile one owner. Would much prefer without nav but not a lot of sub 10k mile cars around and it’s not going down in price.

I'm with you, but then it becomes a question of the impact of the mileage on the value. How much more is a car with 8K worth, than one with 30K, or 35K?

As long as you are relatively low on the miles, it is hard to assign a value to each 1000 miles below XX mileage.

With 50K miles, I think 40 to 45K would be the ballpark. Over 50K, it is less collectible but surely still a car worth owning.

I don't know how long these cars will run for. With a lot of the vintage Porsches, they talk in terms of at least several hundred thousand miles, maybe a lot more. On the other hand, with those Porsches, you will pay dearly for the service all along the way.

Getting back to the 1M with 8K miles, I'm not really sure how much more desirable such a car is than one with 20 or 30 thousand. Somewhat more, yes, how much more, not sure.

Good points. My thoughts as i look at miles is I now get a free buffer to get to a reasonable mileage. For this 8k example, I think “man, 20k Miles is still mega low, I now have 12k miles to play with to still get to a low mileage example”.

I only put about 4K miles a year on my weekend car so I have 3 years to get to that point.

Thanks for all the feedback. Not planned to use as a daily. Weekends/tours/events Maybe put on 2K per year. Going to make an offer.
Just noticed another AW with sub 30K on BaT. If this falls through, maybe try on that one. I would prefer the 8K car because I have seen it in person & know the owner and how it has been taken care of. BaT makes me a little nervous as you are basically taking the seller word on condition.

Yes! If you know the owner usually better.

Well, The BaT auction was interesting. 29K car for $63,000 with fees. I think I will up the offer on the 8K mikes car. to $64,000.00. I know the history & owner. Hope he accepts. Will advise on outcome.

Regarding the BaT auction...holy smokes. I have a love / hate relation with bmw values lately. Love the fact that I feel I have something that is appreciating in value, hate the fact that every time I drive it all I'm thinking about is how many more miles I'm adding to it instead of enjoying the drive. I'm not actually interested in selling any of my cars but it's still something you think about...

An e28 M5 with a 'bad' engine went for 23k!

Random, but I have 7K on my pretty much stock AW, and have said to myself that 65k is what I would try to sell mine for if I needed to (not that I'm selling!! ) That's just based on my gut.

What's interesting is that it's the same car being advertised here for $52k

I mean, if you’re selling at $65k let’s talk. I could use another AW.
