tii with 340 HP???
BMW’s Concept 1-series tii has been causing a bit of a stir of late, with word getting out it’s housing a more powerful version of the 335i’s 3.0L twin turbo. The rumor comes from a group of German journalists who have apparently driven the car. With the U.S. introduction of the 1-series just around the corner, it makes sense for BMW to test more powerful versions and expand the limited range of models coming to the world’s biggest car market. Currently, only the 125i and 135i are scheduled to go on sale in the States.
Interestingly, the engine is said to be tweaked to produce 340hp, up from the original 306hp, suggesting it may be the basis for a possible hardcore version, according to the guys from AutoBild. A car as potent and light as this could easily blitz the competition, as its RWD setup will give it the precision and control not possible in most of its rivals due to their FWD or AWD powertrains. The concept also featured a fully aerodynamically tuned bodykit and plenty of carbon-fiber to keep weight down and strength up. The carbon-fiber roof, as seen on the concept, could also become a trademark of BMW’s high-performance coupes. One thing about BMW is that most of its concept vehicles usually end up in production either as is or with very few modifications, however with this one BMW will have to tread carefully as it could turn out to be a possible M3-killer. Production plans may not be concrete yet, although we certainly hope BMW goes ahead with it. http://www.motorauthority.com/news/c...on-with-340hp/ |

I wonder if this "tweaked" engine will find its way into the face-lifted e90's, possibly with a ZHP package?
I might just have to wait. I'd love to have two ZHP's in the carriage house...

They better have quite a few suspension upgrades to go along with all of that carbon fiber. With all of the understeer that seems to be apparent with 300 horses, with 340 hp, who knows? They wouldn't just slap more hp without tweeking it.

A $1200-1400 Vishnu or Active AutoWerke ECU will give you the same hp.

BMW is probably close to releasing Phase 2 of the Tii concept (engine and chasis). But honestly, did you think it was going to be less horsepower..? One quick read of the Tii Concept Press Release indicated a renewed spark from BMW that was squarly centered around motosports. I think BMW wants to clearly demonstrate it can build and race turbo's engines alongside Corvettes and Audi's, to show there world their turbo's engines are reliable. |

You want a rally engine in the Tii ..? This car is going after Porsche, Vette and other big block comptetitors. If you want a small turbo, then whats wrong with a biturbo..? RPM's ? |

One reason might be that they don't want people waiting instead of buying a 135i:iono: Am I the only one who would rather see them upgrade suspension and brakes and maybe find a way to lose 100-200 pounds (maybe by losing the back seat and adding a carbon-fiber roof and hood) rather than adding more power? One thing I do like though (for their engine line in general) is the idea of getting more power out of the inline six rather than jumping to a V8 like they did with the M3. For some reason, I've never gotten onboard with the V8 in the M3. I've always seen the inline 6 as almost a signature of BMW, while the V8 seems more Mustang or Camaro (though clearly the V8 is a damn well executed V8). |

As far as going after big block competitors, is that true? I always thought BMW was about a well balanced driving machine. Sort of a decathlete of the automotive world. That's what was great about the original 2002. It would embarass the big block cars with it's handling. BMW didn't have to resort to stuffing a big block it's it's own car. Whatever engine they put in the car, I plan on buying it (if BMW makes it). Leif W. |
