hello there,
this spring i plan on attending a few autocross/track event and i want to pick up a spare wheel/tire set up for the track. the wheels i will be using will either be my stock 261M wheels or kosei K1. i need some help choosing my tires. This is the list of tires that i was looking at. which one would you guys recommand as a track only tire... 1. Dunlop Z1 Star specs 2. Federal SS595RS-R 3. Nitto NT05 4. Falken RT-615 also on the K1 wheels what's the widest tire that i could run without rubbing. thanks |

I'm using Bridgetstone Potenza RE-11 for daily use and they grip very well but they are a popular choice for track use. They're a bit more $$$ than other options out there but I highly recommend them.

I'm on Dunlop Z1 Star specs. NT05 is nice too. I like these because you can have them remounted left to right/right to left when the outside edge wears out.[/QUOTE] on the potenza´s re11?

These are the only 3 street tires worth a damn that we have used. Only one on the list we haven't tried is the RE11 so can't comment on that one. What I have heard is that it is a solid all around tire but it may not be the fastest tire.

For track only and if you have a couple years autocross experience you may want to consider DOT race tires such as the Hoosier A6 or Kumho V710.

I currently have Star Specs on my car for autocross and performed great at the one event I have run on them, so far. I had plenty of grip, especially considering they were being scrubbed in at the event. They held up very well even, with little noticeable wear after 13 runs (3 drivers) on a very grippy/abrasive concrete surface.
Last year I had Bridgestone RE-01R (the previous version of the RE-11Rs) and they worked well too, the RE-11Rs are supposed to be even better, so might be worth considering. About half of the events I ran last year were in the rain (unfortunately) and the Bridgestone's did very well for grip in the rain.

Unless of course you'll be in the STU class, in which case go with one of the other suggested tires. If you are just racing with clubs that don't necessarily adhere to SCCA classes I highly suggest the Kumhos. Hoosiers are the same price, but the Kumhos last twice as long and will better handle the transition from track-days to autox. |

With the Vorshlag Camber plates I have -2.7 degrees of camber in the front. I am running 255x18x35 on 18x9 wheel in the front and 275x18x35 on 18x9.5 in the rear. Wheels are APEX ARC-8s, no fender rolling required, no rubbing. I did need a 5mm spacer in front to get the wheel/tire off of the strut.

Track use tire?
For track use only (but also need them on the car to drive 50 miles each way to the track), if I dont want to go as radical as the Kuhmo 710.......is the next best Toyo R888?
Looking at pictures on tire rack of either the Yokohama Advan Neova AD08s & Dunlop Z1 Star Specs Direzza they look more like a street tire so I am wondering if they will perform as well at the track?? |
