We often tend to think that when we have/enjoy something very good, that there simply MUST be something (even) better - we believe that, at this point in time in the current circumstances, it's simply inconceivable that we are already at the pinnacle.

However, through comparison during reality-checks, we often got to admit that, actually, the existing situation suits us best.

Frankly speaking, here and now, I have not come across another car that, as overall package, suits better my needs than my 1M. It's that good that I'm not even on the lookout for something else. Maybe I change my point of view in the future, when different situations occur (game changer), but for the time being it's "the pinnacle" in my book.

P.S.: same goes for my wife.

Well I did, it starts with an F and ends with '12'. Only one tiny problem.

Yeah, as Chris Harris pointed earlier this week, when driven madly, your tire dealer must be your best friend...

Apparently the M235i deserves consideration - comparably equipped it will cost more than a 1M at MSRP as the M235 in the US is 44K plus extra for 19s (if desired) and an M diff (neccessory) vs the $46,800 base price for the 1M.

Nice post. Appreciate the good advice

Don't forget the M Performance brakes; the apples to apples equipped M235i will be a really expensive offer, not only against 1M which is not available as new anymore, but also against its other brand rivals like A45/CLA 45 AMG. It gets very close to Cayman territory.

Which makes me worry about if there will be a M2 after all!

I keep coming back to this as well. I'm considering other street cars I might add to it (electic for commuting, or new Cayman with a GT3 motor for fun) to go along with my porsches but I don't see replacing it any time soon. Even when the new M2 comes out, despite the fact that I expect it will be faster and better polished, I doubt I'll be too tempted to "upgrade". My biggest concern is keeping miles off it so that I can keep it around for a while longer.

+1. When I discovered about its launch I knew it that it ticked all my boxes. Until any brand makes anything similar (4 seats, >200hp independent RWD with locking differential, <50k$) that it does >50mpg, it will be my ultimate fun car.

And that's just the rational part of the package; 2 years behind the wheel I still grin like a little boy when experiencing the exceptional steering response, handling and downshifts to 3rd gear, accelerating straight into heaven. Adding the reviews from knowledgeable people that have driven all sorts of great cars, I concluded: there aren't a lot significantly better driver's car out there anyways! If I time shift my situation: pending the final look of a more expensive M2, the rather plain M235i looks do not do it for me, as the 135i barely did.

All the raving reviews, the hyping & teasing and allocation madness will only aid the low depreciation. Another bonus added to the package.

Clarkson's Review of 4C

Jeremy Clarkson's Review of Alfa Romeo 4C; Typical Clarkson and fun to read; he seems to be hyper excited with the 4C

You could keep the 1M a little longer and wait for the upcoming Cayman GTS....

GTS is a marketing exercise. Wait for the Cayman GT4.

The 4C isn't doing well in some reviews I'm seeing.

Evo car of the year points and finishing order:

43- Porsche GT3
36- Ferrari F12
35- Mercedes SLS Black
28- Aston V112 Vantage S
25- Audi R8 V10 Plus
24- Mini JCW GP
19- Porsche Cayman S
6- Alfa Romeo 4C (ranked last by every tester)

The 1M came in a strong 3rd place a couple years ago (behind only the GT3 RS 4.0 and the McLaren MP4-12C). Doesn't sound the the 4C would be a worthy replacement.

That's very interesting. My subscription to EVO e-copy ended a while ago, obviously I am missing the all important ECOTY issue, have to restart to read the whole thing.

The fact that I am focused in 4C is one thing, going and buying it as a 1M replacement is another. I am not convinced to go for a (not-so-perfect) DCT equipped car with a relatively small turbo engine after the 1M.

For the moment I am looking for excuses to keep the 1M, and that is not a difficult task

This will always be difficult.

I "used to be" a big Honda fan....driving the high-revving b-type engines and loving it.
One day I bought an Integra Type R which is probably the best front-wheel drive car ever made and owned it for about 9 years.
I always said: will NEVER sell this car but it will happen and in this case because of the 1M

So, someday a car will come by you will want more than the one(s) you currently own, I think.

Porsche decided not to offer a manual for the 2014 GT3 for speed reasons ("we enjoy driving manuals, but we want to be the fastest").

Nice! Actually I really like what I see here design-wise; stats look stellar as well. It goes without saying that I am not in any way taking it as a direct comparison to 1M, whole different segment.

There is a chance it may be the best SUV ever for people who like to drive something a bit more than a SUV while driving a SUV.

I'm actually considering the MTT over the M4. Porsche says the sport chrono pkg reduces 0-60 to 4.3 which I'm sure is on the conservative side. Either way, this new model will sell like hot cakes.

http://stuttcars.com/porsche-models/macan/

I've also been quite surprised with my current 1M replacement. The Mini GP has been a hoot to drive thus far!

I've put down a deposit for Macan Turbo... will replace ageing ML (bus) next year. Mrs likes the higher driving position and auto trans. If the pdk is like my 991 then this will be a great car.
