Windshield
So how much you think a windshield replacement would be in a 128i? Long story short I was an idot and now im going to have to pay for it....its cracked at the very bottom and there are 4 or five lines...only 2 long ones about 4-6 inches long....not sure if i can just be repaired or if it will need to be replaced

I had my Z4 windshield replaced due to a rock crack and it cost $1000.00. It has the rain sensor. My insurance covered it. What happened to your windshield that you consider your self an idiot?

i almost dont wanna say....but....i washed my car....with the windshield wipers flipped up and I was finished so I decided to open the hood and wipe down the inside.....the hood got half way up and I heard a crack....my heart dropped....the metal from the wipers pushed into the glass and cracked it

OK. Now I'm glad you posted this.
It's never occurred to me to flip the hood up with the wipers in that position but I would have never worried about it breaking the glass. |

I had a stone hit the windshield of my Z4 a few years ago leaving an impact point with short spiderwebbing and had it successfully repaired. But I was told at the time that if a quarter (25 cent piece) cannot cover the spiderwebbing from the impact point, then it can't be repaired and the windshield will have to be replaced. Luckily, my spiderwebbing had just started and a quarter easily covered the cracks.. Based on the description of your damage, you will need a new windshield..

Figure about $1000 - $1200. That is what the insurance company paid to replace the rain sensing windshield on my 330i.

Repiar your hood and wipers before hand, and tell your insurance company that you came out one morning and someone had smashed your windshield. They might be more hesitant to replace it if it was due to a slip up by you.

Don't feel so bad, i did the same thing, only I didn't crack the windshield, just the nick on the lip of the hood. Not even noticeable, a little dab of touch-up and it'll be like it never happened. I have USAA as well, great company, I don't see why they wouldn't come through for you.

Had a pebble hit my windshield with like 500 miles. Hit the passenger side...had it repaired. The repair sucked! Still have two really small defects. I was told..
Once repaired;cannot repair again in same area! Even though repair may not be perfect, the repair will prevent furthur spreading. Discussed same with dealer and was told at this time given the newness of the 1 combined with the rain sensor wipers do what ever you can NOT to replace windshield for as long as possible. I have full glass coverage but stil dont want my 1er fuc*ed up! I will live with the defect! |

The last three vehicles I have owned have had a cracked windshield within 6 months from new and no more after that. It must be a Christening thing. :iono: My Z4 windshield is fine and it was replaced 3.5 years ago.

Makes me glad I got the windscreen protection through my dealer. Mostly because I've replaced it three times on my previous car and it's nice to have that peace of mind when something happens that it isn't going to cost me anything extra.

I have USAA also, had to pay the deductable for a past replacement, but it doesn't affect your rates. They fix them for free if it can be done without replacement. But not for long cracks, as everyone already has said.
